Nice pics Rick.Do you know anything about Sugar Creek?I fell in love with it the first only only time I've seen it.When the leaves start changing soon I want to put a canoe in somewhere N.E. of Turkey Run S.P. and canoe down and exit in the park.

That's one we've been talking about doing an overnight on. You can actually start in Crawfordsville and take out just past Turkey Run.

Thanks for the link Rick.Looks like the water level is low right now.Perhaps conditions will improve by the time the leaves change colors.

Some of you may remember me posting that my wife and I collected Jewelweed seeds last fall and planted them around our water barrel. I'm sorry to say that I pulled some weeds a week or so ago and in hind sight now realize I pulled some fresh young Jewelweed that I had forgotten was planted. Fortunately, as is the case with "weeds" we seldom get them all and we still have a starter patch growing. Since it's around the water barrels it should stay moist enough for them to be happy and it's on the northeast side of the house so they will stay out of the bright sunshine and more in the shade. Here are the little fellahs struggling to make a new life for themselves.

Now all you need to do is plant some poison ivy and you'll be all set.

It's at the other end of the fence!!!

Thanks to Coot for reminding me I had planted them. I had completely forgotten about them until he inquired!!

Coot tries to convince me that if I eat a small bit of poison ivy every now and then I won't need the Jewelweed. I think if I did that what I'd need is a trauma center. Yikes!!

Back in April I post that my Jewel Weed (Touch-Me-Not) had sprouted. I thought I'd update this post because it's blooming!! I have a grand total of three blooms on one plant.

Remember that my wife and I harvested seeds in the wild last fall and planted them next to our water barrel. This is what they look like today.

Looks like it's pretty happy in that spot.

I have a total of three bushes. I'm ashamed to say I pulled the rest when I first weeded this spring. Pulled them before I knew what I was doing. Hopefully, these will seed and we'll have more next year. Bring on the poison ivy!!!!

Oh sure - big talk now. Next I suppose you are going to take up Ole WV Coot's idea and start eating it.

I missed this post when you first made it. That one "prairie" picture with the caption about what the area looked like in 1700 something was missing, Woodland Bison. This area was thick with them when my French/Meti ancestors showed up here. My grandfather was born in 1889 and he never called the river anything but Wapehani actually pronounce Wah' Peh Hanee. Or at least that is the way he pronounced it.
