Oddest Wildlife encounter

One more strange animal encounter which involved a hawk.

I was getting gas for a work vehicle when I noticed a hawk diving into a field which was adjacent to the gas station. A few seconds later the bird was again airborne carrying a rather large snake in its talons. It gained altitude until it was several hundered feet into the air when suddenly it seemed to loose its grip and dropped the snake.
The hawk simply tucked its wings into its body and dove catching the snake again but in midair this time. Another person next to me at the pump saw this unfold as well and we talked about it in disbelief for several minutes afterwards.

Guys, I understand. Yes I do. :innocent: I had the same thing happen to me as Rick did, except in my case it was a bull and not a doe. There's a lot of bull around here......... :sneaky2:

My wife and I were walking home one night. It was pitch black out could just barely see shadows. all of a sudden a large shadow raised up in front of us. We stopped instantly. I looked like some crazy demon wanting to take us away with him. It turned out i was a skunk. so we just stood there afraid it was going spray us for sure. The dumb thing walked right up to us. We were breathing pretty hard. then it just turned around and walked away. Man that would have sucked. I guess you have to take a bath in tomato juice to get rid of the smell. But that is just what I have heard.

Down here the animals are normal, the people are the ones you gotta watch. We were muddin' last summer and one guy hit a hole too slow and kinda got stuck. He put it in 4W drive and gunned it, didn't move for a few minutes but he threw mud like crazy and with the mud came two snakes flying through the air. Went over our heads and into the brush glad to get away. We never knew what kind they were, just two muddy snakes about two ft. long so could have been decent sized copperheads. He stopped for a tow out, told him about the snakes and he bailed off the ATV into the mud, had a bad phobia about snakes I guess.

I've had so many.

1. Drew down on a young buck at 6 yards, he looked right at me eye to eye, saw those big eyes and eye lashes.

2. Started to draw on a doe when 3 fawns ran out in front of me and started to play, jumping straight up in the air, did not take the shot.

3. Had two fawns that just lost their spots walk up to my ground blind and look right in, then walk away.

4. Had a 6pt jump right over my ground blind and stand there.

5. Had to get out of the way of a 6pt who was walking north on a trail while I was walking south. He looked up at 5 yards, I moved off the trail, he walked by and that was that.

6. Had a bird land on my arrow while I was bowhunting in a tree stand.

7. While cleaning a nipple because of a misfire on a spike, an 8 point walk right up to me about 5 feet away and was looking over my shoulder when I turned around. Bastard did not even have the respect to run away, he just walked away slowly.

8. While hog hunting in S. Ga, I put a stalk on a boar that was running with two sows and piglets. I was about 20 yards away trying to get a shot at the boar when the piglets stopped, turned, ran right over to me and was running around my feet. Cute little critters, glad they grow up to be ugly.

9. While hog hunting in S.Ga, in a hog tunnel, I heard hogs in front of me going the opp. direction. So, mr. dumb**** (me) I break out the deer grunt and grunt as if you do it right, it sounds like a boar. The boar in the tunnel going away, turned and started coming towards me, I saw him and tried to get my bow up, duh, it's a longbow in a hog tunnel, trying not to panic I reached around for my bowie knife, duh, I left it at camp. at about 5 yards the boar changed his mind. Thank god.

This could be a long thread.
One thing I learned about complete camo, is the world moves around you, over, past you, on you and they never know the difference.

Watched a red tail hawk sizing up my turkey decoy, dove down, hit it hard, spun it around, but didn't go down.

Hawk flew over to a big round bale, landed and sat there wondering what the heck just happened. (bet he's still telling the story to his hawk friends)

Had a little field mouse, mousing around my turkey stand, doing what ever a mouse does all day.
He stopped, squatted, and took a whizz, sound on the dry leaves the same as me, except smaller

Skunk walked right behind my head while laying behing a dead log, his hair brushed the back of my neck.

Large owl took my hat off while walking out to my stand in the dark, (note to self check drawers)

List is long, but that's what makes it fun, you just never know.

Well one time when I was 19 I was working as a drill helper. We were on night shift and I was outside the drill shack chopping firewood by the light of a Coleman gas lantern. I noticed these bushes kind of shaking so I picked up a quarter split of firewood and chucked it at the bush, figuring it was maybe a marten or a wolverine. Big black bear stuck his head up, grunted and came lumbering toward me. I was about 10 yards from the shack and just bolted into the shack and straight up the tower. My brother was drilling and he's looking up at me and yelling at me for running up there like that while the drill's running (dangerous) the bear stuck his head in the doorway of the shack, took a look around and wandered off. My brother was too busy yelling at me to even see the bear behind him. I was pointing enthusiastically, but he ignored me. It was February, that big fella (the bear, not my brother) was supposed to be asleep.

Many years ago while stationed at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage Alaska I was working mid-shift. It was about 4am and I was sitting at my desk doing some paper work. It was summer and hot inside the building so we had all the doors open. I heard this clicking sound coming down the hall and was thinking someone had a rock stuck in their boot. The noise stopped out side my office door. I turned to see who was standing in my door but there was no one there. I turned back to my work. A moment later I heard what sounded like heavy breathing, I turned and looked again but there was no one there. I started to turn back to my work when I realized there was something out of place in the office. I turned back and it took me a moment to figure out there was a very large black bear standing about arms reach away from me. I calmly and in a firm voice told the bear to get out of my office. The bear woofed his disappointment, turned and went back into the hall and out the door. I followed him to the door and shut it behind him.

You put up signs and no one bothers to read them. Sheeesh. Bears! Go figure.

While Out In An Area That Had Alot Of Ranches A Cow Had Somehow Escaped And Started Following Me..... It Followed Me For 2 Hours, Always Stopping When I Did. And Never Getting Spooked, I Could Walk Up And Pet It And It Was Just Happy... I Never Did Get Around To Naming It.

strangest for me was right in my frount yard , the dog was going crazy and the cat was hanging on the window screen acting like something was gonna eat it, so I headed out the door to see what was out there and as soon as I was off the porch a red fox ran up to me smelling my boots and rubbing up against my leg like it was a pet.

I was fly fishing on a river here, caught a small 8" salmon, released it thought it was okay, a loon picked it up, carried it around for 45 minutes, would drop it dive come back up and pick up the salmon again. Just as I was leaving the loon finally ate the fish.

That's fun. My brother and I used to hunt them at night like that with a .22 mag. I miss those days. Comming up my family always had alligator meat in the freezer. Hmmm Hmmm good!

LOL, I know what you mean, they think your comming to "grain 'em".
Darn things will follow you around all day...or just stand back and watch you from a distance no matter where you go, there they are.

Don't you just hate it when they play with their food.

Watched a young eagle that latched on to a good size carp about 6 ft from shore.
Couldn't pick it up, too big, didn't want to/couldn't let go, so "swam" it to shore, dragged it part way up the bank, till Momma came and hauled it off.

Osprey would swoop in dive in the water, pick out a small fish, the pop up out of the water and fly away.......kept coming back for another one.

As we were duck hunting, every time he/she? showed up, every one would hunker down grab their gun, thinking it was a duck.

Finally one of the guys, hollers out, "Would you just grab a big one and just get out of here!"
