Update this mmorning,I am going to repost a prayer request one of my sister posted on her sons caringbridge website, she was allowed to talk to Dustin on the phone:
"Please pray for my brother Dustin. He is in the marines. He left base yesterday to pick up a buddy from Las Vegas. He was in a vehicle accident. Apparently he woke up while his other buddy was driving and realized something was wrong and laid on top of the third guy. The other two walked away from the accident and refused to even ride along with him to the hospital. That is what is hurting Dustin the most. He is currently in ICU in University Medical Center in Las Vegas. He broke his left clavical, ribs, neck, spine and jaw. He has a brain bleed and swelling. He can move everything. He is refusing pain meds. He is in a lot of pain though. He is talking and not slurring his words. He has surgery tomorrow to repair his neck. He has numerous stitches in his head. "
He didn't mention his leg,but still he has a tough road ahead,I can only imagine.
Thanks for all the prayers, they are truely appreciated.
All that is good news Nell, the speech and consciousness etc.
I'm not into your organised religion but will ask that the Reiki Spirits send healing for Dustin.
Good news Nell.
This must be a very worrying time for your whole family.
Count my prayers in as well Nell.
I feel for you nell. It is difficult to be away from loved ones when they are in pain. My family and I are praying for your brother.
nell i will pray for your brother an hope they are answered a friend of broke his neck they said he would not walk but he is walking fine hope all works out keepping you and your brother in our prayers.
Don't be so quick to down the guys for not coming to see him yet. I, at the age of 17, witnessed my brother (the night before he turned 18) break his neck and become paralized in a swimming accident. I had to hold him up from drowning and keep him talking until help arrived. This messed with my head bad. I had a very hard time going to see him that way, and actually did not go for a few days. When I finally did, we spoke a few words to each other, and I could not stay there anymore. I had to leave. It was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life, seeing him like that. Now, I am 35, and he is 36. I work like a dog to make a living, and he is some kind of executive something or other for a very large university, bringing home the big bucks. Go figure.
All I'm trying to say is, I can see why the others may be holding back because I was in a simular situation. Give them a little time to get the strength.
Prayers sent.
They went ahead and gave Dustin pain meds even though he didn't want them, because his heart rate was starting to go up,they figured due to the amount of pain he is in.
Just talked to one of the nurses, and he asleep now that he is not in as much pain, his surgery on his neck is scheduled for 3 their time,6 mine (EST),hopefully I will get a few minutes to speak to him before he goes in for surgery.
Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers!
This is good news. Refusing pain meds! WOW! Thats one tuff marine. I broke my back in an accident and let me tell you it hurt. Sound like his spinalcord isn't damaged, thats great news. Sounds like his determination will pull him through this. You and your family are in our prayers.
praying, babe
Similar thing happened to my brother who was in the Marines, deployed in Al Anbar, Iraq. He didn't make it, but my prayers are with you, your brother, and your family. Semper Fidelis
My thoughts and prayers go out to you all. I hope for a speedy and full recovery.
