The Knobstone Trail is little more than a well worn animal trail in most places.

Our first night atop Round Knob. The highest point in Indiana.

One of the many box turtles that blew my doors off hiking the trail. I never understand what all the hurry is about.

On one diversion trying to find water we found this view instead.

The panty tree. Yep, that's what those bright colored things are. Panties. I have no idea.

Elk Lake. End of the line for this trip.
Thanks Rick.
Nice pics.
Love the one of the lake Rick, that is one of my favorite fishing spots around here.
Rick - how was the puddle water? Did it have much taste? I know it's not a source of preference.....I keep a couple of little packets of Crystal Lite in my pack, not for flavoing puddle water, but rather variety. I imagine it could make something a bit more user friendly.
At one point I was forced to filter water out of a ditch. Scummy, silty water. It all comes out of my MSR filter just fine. One thing I did happen upon this time quite by chance. My wife picks up Kroger brand Sugar Free "In An Instant" Iced Tea drink mix. This happened to be Decaf tea with lemon. I tossed a couple of them in the pack. My lunch (noon) the first day was cheese and crackers and a couple of fig bars and I made a cup of tea using her instant packets. That was THE BEST TEA ever! The lemon helped quench my thirst and it was probably one part hot and sweaty and one part thirsty but that stuff was (as Tony would say) GGgggggggeat!
They really do make nice little treats.
I really don't have a problem with any water I filter. It all tastes the same, as in good. The more silt in the water the more often I have to stop and clean the filter but if the water is reasonably clear, as was the case in the pic above, I don't have to clean it at all. The pump is double action so I pump water on both strokes filling the container a lot quicker.
rick, will you be making any changes to what you packed in? is there anything you would bring next trip you didn't bring this time? nice pics
Sherpa comes to mind.
I did upgrade the shoulder straps on my pack but, beyond that, no changes. And the upgrade wasn't as a result of this trip just the fact my shoulders are getting older. I've pretty well honed my pack to the point I want it. I just make some minor adjustments for the length of stay or the time of year.
