Well, I don't know about Oz, but here in Europe things like the Lifestraw can be pretty hard to find, almost impossible on the high street, even in camping stores and when you do find them, well, they're not cheap. It was cheaper including postage for me to import one from USA.

Most places you can find are $20 USD, I'm not sure what the conversion would be to your currency. It's a great thing to have in any survival kit.
Learn to make a simple water filter and cook the water..you will be safer.

A lot of people don't even filter high Sierra water. Not worth the risk to me but I feel plenty safe with just a sawyer.

I have a couple of the Aquamira Frontier water filters that fit in your pocket. They are for the cryptocrawlies and giardia things. No flavor enhancement like with the charcoal type filters.
Never had to use them before the new Sawyer portable stuff came around but they are still stashed around in various kits and whathaveyou.
Still can't get past the Sea Monkeys.....
