Puke box is a new term for me. I'll have to write that one down.
A wild fire can cause a still to puke, that is where the term come from. A puke box, which I believe is also called a slobber box is similar to a thump keg. Instead of having a pipe going to the bottom like a thump keg the puke box has a pipe coming in the top a few inches and then out the top a few inches. The puke box is a trap of sorts for boil over.
Yupp, that there pure-I- fied water( wink) is sur-nof saf...no of them ther bugs in it....yessir....
Mighty fine.

I hope so. Alice was a prepper too, and we determined on another thread here that all prepper girls are hot!!!!!

yea but LOL, generally a thump keg or puke box isn't needed on a water purification unit.
In all seriousness though, I have researched and have found that copper really shouldn't be used for distilling water. The reason being is that pure water will leach copper from the coil and possibly cause copper poisoning. It makes sense too, as a plumber I have installed reverse osmosis systems and that water is pure. It is required not to have non-ferrous supply lines after the osmosis unit. Small amounts probably don't matter much though.
I was miss informed and stand corrected Cy, thanks!

However possession of a still is still not a crime AFAIK, if your not making shine Id have to assume its not an issue. Cy is welcome to chime in here, hes been a good source of info so far!

No problem with posessing a still. They are 'folk art' to a fair number of people [or at least that's their story], and I recommend them for exactly the water purification role this thread is about to anybody anywhere. One of my several reasons to recommend keeping a good size pressure cooker on hand.
Thumper??? Puke box???? I ain't drinking anything you guys are making.
Then the ruse has worked. More for us.
you forgot slobber box LOL
I don't remember a permit fee. You fill out a form and you draw a sketch of the property. You must have a separate locking building from the main building or you are going to be denied. But, if you apply for a still permit they will probably call you if they have any questions and they are easy enough to deal with. You have to be able to lock the ethanol up and you have to render it unsuitable to drink it if it leaves the permitted property.
Years ago, at the Mother Earth Eco-Village, In N.C....the had classes when you camped there you could attend.....one class was making,
alcohol for fuel......quite an operation....and always in the back of the class was a couple of old guys in bib overhauls.....picking up pointers?

You're right, TTB says there's no federal fee for an DSP/AFP application. Do you know what the bonding requirement is for either?
Are we talking about making moonshine here? Wonder why it is called moonshine...
Mostly about distilling water, but we segue into moonshining discussion often.
More than you wanted to know...
