More importantly, can you imagine digging a pitfall without it?
and if it does break, you can always disassemble the handgun and dig the pitfall wth the slide :D
Hasn't broken yet - I've repainted it a time or two, but if it did, I think I would fashion a digging tool with this http://www.wilderness-survival.net/f...ead.php?t=2038 (see post #7) rather than use the slide of the handgun.
If you don't want to pack the weight of a shovel but still want to carry a digging tool then something like this might be for you:

I've also seen people just breing a garden trowel with them. I guess that's about the same size as the tool in the link. Something is always better than nothing (well almost always)
Ive had the Nato spade by Gerber for some time now and have been impressed with it, I havent sharpened any of its edges however since ive never needed it for any purposes that require it to be sharp
