When it comes to doing what you want,.... WFC what the milage is.......That's the nice part of being an Old Guy...I can afford it!
I have to say that motor LOOKS like it has more than 70k on it. If the truck has a good body, and I think it was a shortbed? It would almost bring that price here with no motor or trans.
Well did ya buy it? I love old Chevy trucks!
It is a longbed and yep, 70k miles looks alot older when it is 28 yrs. young, the motor actually only has 36k on it. Friday I spent the day at the DMV. Saturday i washed it and undercoated the wheelwells. I spent the day today putting new mufflers on her, she liked 'em and I did too. I haven't posted pics because I didn't want to hurt any feelings. Drove it to work friday and will be Monday. Everything is going as planned.
I love old Chevy trucks! I've had many! Congrats! I wouldnt swap it to EFI for a few reasons... first, your probably good with carbs so you can keep it running fine as it is. Second, the swap will be more involved then you think..well, you probably know but there is the O2 sensors, putting in a fuel tank from an 87 (for the pump), the wiring, the heads are different, etc, etc. Third, if you keep your foot out of it, those small primary jets will get you pretty good mileage and if you want to go, just push a little harder! Lets see some pics CS!

And Summer travel season does not start until next week!
Yeah, I've already paid over $4 a gallon in some parts of the state. In some places right now $4 would be a relief.
Congrats on the new wheels CS, and I want a video so I can hear the new pipes lol
I payed $ 3.58 and filled the dual 20 gal. tanks on Monday. Left her at home today and drove the ole' Z71. I have some tuning to do and it appears the header collector gaskets are leaking, no surprise really after disturbing the exhaust replacing the mufflers. I am not a fan of headers, may want to replace with manifolds. I'll get some pics up when I can.
Well, I agree....but. It has some really nice Hedmann Headers, equal length tubes and w/ 2.5" collectors. Worked on it this afternoon. Had a good laugh, the original owner had put the collector gasgets behind the flange on the exhaust side. So, effectively no gaskets. I opened her up and put some of the newer brass crush gaskets in between the flanges, where they are supposed to be and was rewarded with a nice quiet sound in the cab. Next I'll be doing the timing and the carb, now that I can hear what I am doing.
I got a 72 ton flatbed off craigslist for $800 couple months ago.
I'm having my son help me weld up a wood gassification generator for it. (I have more firewood than gas money.) As gas costs go up I'll just run on wood. Only gas will be for chainsaw, and I could use hand tools if things get to hard up.
Any truck before 1978 is about as basic an engine as you can get, after that they started putting all that epa crap on them, (72 for cars I believe was the date for epa stuff).
Now that is a big Azzzzzzed truck.
LOL, i meant a one ton truck with a flatbed on it; made in 1972.
I know ya'll was teasing me but I often do get things half way said.
it's still pretty big, but I like that since gassification produces less power so the big engine will still putt putt around ok and haul a lot even allowing for all the wood gas gen parts.
I'll see if I can get pics of it as we build it up. I'm thinking it will be a couple months to getting it up and running and all. Son just got a contract to weld up a bunch of decorative window "treatments" (security bars /shutters) for a big ol' mc mansion this contractor is building.
If he likes the work, might be lots more same place.
We just love people with more money than anything else to throw at trying to buy security instead of taking responsibility for themselves. (Gated communities buy a lot of custom fencing and shutters and reinforced doors and such)
Here are a couple pics to whet your interest like it has mine: (Our final arrangement will attempt to be a bit "cleaner and organized")
