Ya' know, A.S. is a strong horse in this race. All things being equal I'd say yes. However, when you look at military service (life-on-the-line) and community service (boy scouts). I gotta keep my man PGV!
Seriously, I can't imagine how this is gonna play out when you got folks like AS, YCC and all those with a boat load of green dings--who are authentic and simply awesome in the way they do a show 'n tell. How could I possibly vote or even wish to compete...because it is a competition of sorts.
Also, people just can't help but refer to the totality of a nominee's experience and postings when all we're talking about is Oct 1-Dec. 31.
I am Sooooooooo happy that I snookered Crash into managing this........hehehehehehehe
You seem to do that quite well, SD.
Heck, I nominate you for the very thing.
To me, since the contest is going by what has been posted from October 1, 2010 to December 31, 2010, anything posted prior or after those dates have nothing to do with the contest. Kinda like starting a clean slate for all of the members who are entered. Any prior training (military or survival schools) should be irrelevant. Think of it as if you are a new member that just signed up and have seen no history of the other forum members. Hard, yes, but to make it fair I think it's something we should all try.
It's tough to do - maybe not even possible. If we keep the nominations to the dates, I'm sure the bodies of work will come into play with the voting. Pict, for example has posted some incredible "boots in the field" stuff, but he hasn't posted in two months. I guess his boots are out in the field.
My opinion is that AS would have been a land slide on this if you gave a week or twos wiggle room.
But, the rules have been posted and the effort really seems from rwc1969. Crash deserves an honorable mention for his great videos. But, I think rwc1969 has put the most effort and while I hope for a little shorter videos in the future. He has done great and definitely progressed. Keeping the path he is on he will be with YCC, Crash, Mac and the rest of our best here shortly.
What if...the rules said from the past year? Would folks be happy then?
I think the idea was to inspire "NEW" essays on "boots in the field experiences".
Its not a greatest member award. Its a motivation to step up.
I think... So the past posts don't help the objective.
I think what people are craving to do is start with the most green ringdings and go from there.
Fair enough.
But that's different from the original intent.
I think we have an answer in search of a question.
Well, what about the 'puter literacy thing? Someone may have a great record but, be unable to post pics as the other person.
Life isn't fair Reb.
If somebody needs help posting, there's always plenty of help available.
O.K. I'm done being the devils advocate. I just wanted things to be fair for all.
Well I'm headed out this weekend for a boots in the field experience maybe I'll win. :)
