Well The US did "Take Over" the airport anyway, at the Request of the Haitian Grand Pooba because they could not handle the increased traffic.
Oh, all sarcasm aside, I don't like that we aren't flying our colors just as proudly as anyone else. Still, you have to look at the populace there and understand the suspicions the average tragedy-stricken Haitian would have based on our own past history with that country. If the State Dept is concerned that the appearance of an occupation force would cause riots or other situations that would then endanger our soldiers who are trying to do a job- then I don't see how toning it down some is a stupid move. It isn't like we're decking our men and women out in UN uniforms.
If they riot because we fly our flag then we could always....I don't know....go home.

Looks to me like someone found an acceptable compromise that lets us help folks without unnecessarily gumming up the works with unintended messages.
Granted, we could roll in there blasting Lee Greenwood from loudspeakers, shooting off fireworks, and require everyone to sing a couple of bars of God Bless America before we give 'em a MRE I guess. Teach them what it really means to accept a helping hand, the ingrates.
