For starters the yoyo should be made financially responsible for the price of his rescue.

Whatever, dude got killed doing wht he signed up for, most likely from operator error. Sad, but that was his job no matter why he was there. Could have just a easily happened on a hiker that wasn't a "yoyo". I hope I hope i get accepted by SAR soon. That's a real possibility of takin that on. Rescue dumb asses and not so dumb asses. I'm not going to be pissed at every dip **** that gets stuck.

theres a big difference with, being annoyed by a BS sick call, then having to rescue a hiker or climber that has gone beyond their skill level and F-ed up. Getting lost is a no big deal, it happens. but some of the rescues/recoveries I've been involved with were 100% avoidable, had the person had the right equipment/training for what they were doing.Quote:

Well if that's how you look at it diabetic calls and most MIs are bs. Had they not ate doughnuts and let themselves get obese they wouldn't have developed type 2 diabetes or had thy MI. Same principle as easily avoidable. They knew the consequences of their diet and lifestyle yet continued and now other people have to rush and risk injury to help them.
Here's an example. A few weeks ago me and a buddy had to go interior on a structure fire. We had a partial roof collapse an got a few good knocks on the head and had to pull back. Found out later it started because the guy was burning cobwebs INSIDE his house with a harbor freight propane weed burner. Was he an idiot? Of course. Was I pissed at him for making me and my buddy risk out lives for his stupidity? No. That's what we signed up for. When someone is a retard an gets themselves into trouble they could have avoided we are there to help bail them out.... Not ***** and moan about how stupid they are.... People are stupid... A lot...
Had I got killed over it would i want my fiends and family to be pissed at him ft something he could have avoided? No... I wouldn't want them to blame him, but rather know I died doin what I wanted... Helping retards... Haha...

And also he would have been charged with reckless endangerment, It happened here a few years back , a kid ( mid 20's) launched a toy rocket in his house, house caught fire, fire fighter got hurt kid got charged.

I understand your give a crap meter gets full welder guy. I do. But that is about the time I think you should reatrategize or find new work. Idk how many times I've seen cops be a holes to good people because their give a crap meter is full not professional and not the way it should be done. But I do understand. I have a very hard time helping drug addicts who harmed themselves due to personal problems with family drug use. Major hurdle for me.
Also, yes you do risk your life responding to an HHNC. Code 3 accident happen a lot and people do get hurt and killed. Friend wa ejected from an ambulance responding.
Beo wrote a good post. But **** happens with proper gear and training sometimes.
This was either an equipment failure or an operator error. The rescuer was a rescuer because he had someone to rescue. That was his purpose and he accomplished that.
Most accidents in high angle environments are complacency issues. Nobody has said why he fell. But, it seems unlikely he fell because of the rescuee.
Same-same.
The SHTF (engine failure, fire or any scary combination, etc..) and if you don't squeak one on or they didn't get a coke and some peanuts it was "the worst flight they ever had".
A little turbulence, they get scared and "that was awesome, great flight".

I actually Do not run calls anymore haven't in years, I work events mostly. I have no problem risking my life to save someone, I currently do EP work , what i have an issue with and always will, is the careless actions of others that put the rescuers in danger. I understand getting turned around and lost, I understand equipment malfunctions, I can even handle first timers getting scared and frozen and have no problem with that at all.Quote:

"So That Others May Live!" That's the motto of the PJ's that goes into hot LZ's risking everything to save the life of somebody who needs it. SAR personnel also knew this when they took the job. True, if they lose their life in the process everybodys sad. I don't know if that hiker was a yo-yo or not. But if he was and he hadn't been there it could have just as easy been somebody else who simply made a wrong turn somewhere along the line. SAR is there for everybody, both yo-yo's and non-yo-yo's. I think they are fully aware of that. If they thought differently they would have a personality assessment of the victim before going out to rescue them.
"Hmmm, looks like we've got a real dumbass here boys...stand down!"
Instead they are thinking: "Damn, somebody needs us...let's roll!"
