A Boots in the Field Give Away

The reason I am doing a give away is twofold. The first is that my wife and I have a newborn son. And the second is that I missed the gift exchange this year.

This is a "Boots in the Field Give Away," which means you must actually be in the field to qualify. As I cannot verify you just went to your backyard and snapped a picture I am hoping you all have at least some integrity and are truthful in your post.

I want you to get outside and do something. Go on a hike, go fishing, start a fire and cook a meal on the trail, build a lean-to, just get outside and put those boots to use.

1. You must be 18 years of age or older to participate
2. You must be in the field
3. You must submit a picture in this thread, and the picture must be of an activity that has happened after this post.
4. Your post count must be at least 50
5. Open to US Residents only (Sorry I cannot afford shipping otherwise)
6. All entries must be made prior to March 1st 2013 and then I will draw a winner from said entries

I am taking the scouts orienteering on a frozen lake this weekend. I'll take some pics. Next month we are dragging sleds up to a nice campsite in the snow.

Here is one of my scouts splitting wood with my SRK. I did demonstrate how to do it before though. This is purchased firewood. There is absolutely none in this area.

Alright, since we are not having enough participation I am shaking this up. There will be another prize offering on the table.

it's another knife as I am not using it and do not want it to go to waste.

Also, if we do not have enough participation I will increase the length of the giveaway by a month and maybe add something else into the giveaway if necessary.

The point of this was to celebrate my son's birth. His initials are BRR and it got me thinking of how I hate the cold and how I do not train or go out into it like I should. I can hike, fish, hunt, gather, setup camp, and all this when the weather is to my liking, but when the cold comes out I avoid it like the plague.

I am going on a 6 mike hike this weekend and will make a meal on the trail. I need to more of this so I am prepared if the need ever arises. I may even try to carry my full loadout.

I am going out on the 15, 16, 17 18, and 19 of this month. I plan to have my boots on the ground and show some skills in a video. Though my videos tend to suck...

I have a new computer coming today (8 core AMD 4ghz) that Ill be doing my videos on, upgrading from a 2 core AMD 1.6 ghz... so Ill be able to "do more" in "less time".. That UTG strap would drive me CRAZY. When I carry a separate camera bag slung over my shoulder, I have found it better to put it on, and then put the pack suspension over it. Much more comfortable. Other than that, great videos. Thanks for sharing.

I need to post some pics as we did a 4.5 mile hike last weekend. I wore shorts and once we were on top of the mountain it was not pleasant.

Question about the sled. Are there problems on steeper downhill sections? In PineMartins vid he used rigid poles to prevent the sled from "catching up" to him if he were to slow down or rest.

Yeah, I noticed that as well, and the fact that a pack on your back can make sweat spots where it touches.

Well, the person that almost made it to the road was an adult. I think all the kids were too light to make it that far. Also, I wouldn't really call my dog a working dog. I do work her, but not very often, at least not as much as I should. But, man does she like pulling.

I don't really know. I knew the route that we were going to take, and knew that the road isn't very steep. There is a section that is a little steep. But I just lay on the sled, and she gets to run a little faster. If you notice, I made her line a little long. This helps to prevent the sled from hitting her. Of course, it also makes it difficult to weave through trees.
