IT's a GIRL (well filly anyway)
-
-
Dottie / Equus / my other half, Is a member of a horse Forum, and they are going to have a poll/contest sort of thing to decide her name!:sneaky2:
In a way I'm dreading it. Watch it be something I'm gonna' hate!!:innocent::blushing:
-
-
AWE!!! Poco,she is beautiful!!!
-
-
What a sweet little thing. Just makes my heart glad to look at her. Thanks for the pics and congratulations to Dottie and you!
-
I am not a horse person, so....how do you know she is going to be gray? She looks brown. And, congratulations!
-
Pretty neat! So, how soon was it up and suckling? It still looks like it's covered in afterbirth.
-
Oh, well yuck. You didn't have to go there did you?
-
Keen observation RWC!! Actually, in the first pic you can see the placenta.
She was still wet from birth. Today she looks like she is going to be a Buckskin!! Still a day or two before we can get her out in the outside light to get a better look. But with the dim interior of the barn I believe that is what she will be.
Rick, I was there when all my kids were born. Believe me a horses birth is nowhere as gross looking!!
-
Oh well YUCK again!! I'm checking the rules. There must be something against posting the word placenta. There just has to be.

If you look around her head you will notice some very faint Gray coloration. As the horse ages more and more Gray will appear, until eventually the horse is so "Gray" she will look more white than anything else!

She is a strong little filly - wasn't long at all. As a matter of fact Dottie and I were both amazed at how fast she seemed to be doing everything!! Walking, suckling, etc. She is 10hands high (@40") and 96 lbs.! Big and healthy!!

So...my brother was talking to a doctor friend. They were talking about weird names people give their kids. Apparently the doctor had been in the South delivering a baby. When the girl came out, he handed the baby to her mother and asked, "So, what will you name her"?
Mother.."Only the most beautiful word I have ever heard...placenta".
-
I'm surprised the mom can still stand to let her suckle after that.
-
What a little beauty! I think Gracie sounds good!:)
Oh, and she'll be in good company if she does turn out to be Buckskin. My old boy was the most stunning Buckskin I've ever seen(then again I'm biased) If I can work out how to do it, I'll scan in some pics.
-
-
Now that is just cool!
Congrats Poco.
She sure is a pretty little thing.
-
Awwww...
Congratulations!
She's a cutie!!!

I used to say that about Annette Funicello when I was a young lad.

Here's an update on the little Filly. Dottie/Equus shot a little video of her today. She has more than doubled her weight at Birth, and is a little over 4" taller.

Yeah Dottie's on-line horse buddies wanted an update on her, so she went and did that Video earlier. While I was watching it I figured some might get a "Kick" out of the friskiness of the little girl. Dottie almost get's kicked in the video!! QT (the little fillies name) thought about it anyway!!
-
She's going to be a real looker! Looking at her now, she may turn out what we call flea-bitten grey. But I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for buckskin!
-
That's pretty cool. I see you're already training her to herd cats. A good cat horse is hard to find.
-
Oh ------ you said cat horse.
Hey Sourdough! Nevermind. He said cat horse.
-
AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!! She looks like a baby moose! Name her moose! I love her, keep posting as she grows!
-
At the rate she is growing, if this keeps up, She WILL be a Moose!! She was 10 hands(40") and 92 pounds at birth. She is now 11.1 hh (45") and 191 pounds in just under a months time!!

Well we have another new filly!! A friend who travels with his job a LOT brought us his mare to "Foal Out". This is the only "Outside Mare" that we have bred with our Stallion. Her "Barn Name" is Cupid, because she has 3 spots that are kinda' Heart Shaped!! Not sure if you will be able to see them in the pics or not. The pics are kinda' Blurry.
Anyway Here's Cupid!!

We will be keeping her here for a couple of months. We will start handling her(have actually already started handling her) to help "Gentle" her and get her accustomed to people. It is the first step in training, and more important than some would think. We cannot do anything that might frighten her too much. Yes, she will have to learn that everything that is "scary" now is not so bad after all. This is a slow process.

Thank you Both!! Yes we think they are something else!! Between the two of them we have 1 perfect horse in my eyes. QT has the better conformation, and Cupid has the better "Coloration/Patterning" LOL If QT had Cupids patterning, she would have been all I could have asked for.
Yes QT is the Ham!! I really need to get some video of her. Her antics are something else!! She runs, bucks, and plays and is afraid of nothing..... except the Truck when we go past her in the pasture..... But she is losing that fear and is starting to just watch it like the other horses. The first time the truck passed the pasture she took off like a pack of wolves were after her, Bucking and kicking...... Then she looked back and saw that it wasn't after her!!! Too Funny!!

Heartwarming, beautiful animals!
I'd probably sleep in the barn with them.:)

You would need a clothes pin. There is no "Bean-o" for horses!!:innocent:
