home of the cowboys
I just moved to Chiang Mai district of san Sai and now live right next to Maejo Univ
ersity, which is an agricultural college. For some reason, they have a big thing there with cowboys and Indians. They have a rodeo there every year, and a parade with horses and Thai guys dressed up like cowboys and American Indians. There are statues of cowboys and indians all over the college. Their soccer team is also called the cowboys. I do not understand how this college in Thailand identifies so much with cowboys, but it does sort of make me feel close to home. For some reason Thais in general love cowboy stuff. They love American western movies and country music. In general Thais love America, unlike some other places I have been. Another interesting thing to me is the similarities between native Americans, (I am half Algonkian myself), and the hilltribes of Thailand, Burma and Tibet.

I'm glad the move went well. How's the back doing? I know you like to work out. Does the university have a gym that you can use?

Thanks for asking Rick. Yes back is much better. I walk at least an hour a day and have been doing isometrics and tai chi and chi kung exercises. There is a gym at university that public can use for about a dollar a day but I figured I will not go to gym until doctor says okay. I am now moved into new house and it is very nice.

Thats very cool. Ya know Native Americans and Asians are from the same lineage according to dna testing. I saw that on the History Channel. Customs may have originated in the same area and grown different through out the millenea. It is interesting to think about.

Thanks everyone. I have bought a house in San Sai which is a district of Chiang mai. it is not in mountains but can still see mountains from front porch. It is brand new house with 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. I no longer have farm either. However wife has small business selling crochet stuff and is going to beauty school. I am still volunteer police but because of back injury not on rescue team. Strangely, despite all the cowboy stuff, beef in Thailand sucks. I do not even eat it. As for the Asian-American Indian connection, there is a writer named Eliot Pattison who wrote a very interesting book related to this called Prayers of the Dragon, or something similar to that.
