Its about time. although it was an unprecedented modern era event, it is apparent there were many bad decisions made by the local government (the federal response is a topic for another discussion). Just from the coverage I read and discussions with FEDs and National Guardsmen from New Jersey who were on scene, the local government was in chaos, with no real leadership. Stripping law abiding citizens of their lawfully possessed firearms is unforgivable, especially when the government was unable to provide protection

I really hope that the ones responsible for that crap, do some real jail time!
I'm sure some people will/have filed suit against them, but that money will just come from the taxpayers. I want the people who did it to suffer the consequences.:sneaky2:

(Don't get the wrong idea....I hope that every person that had a gun taken from them files suit.)

I personally think that those who had their weapons seized should file a lawsuit in the trillions. Where the city of new orleans would realize that they were in SERIOUS trouble of being bankrupt for many generations. It is sad but that seems that is the only way to get their attention, to hit them in their pockets, and make it HURT. Then when it looks like they will win approach the City and let them off the hook with a lesser amount. At least that is what I would hope would happen.
Personally I think anyone who is in danger of having their weapons being unlawfully taken would have the right to shoot those attempting this,without fear of prosecution. I know they would have been shot by the cops who were in the wrong. I know that 2 wrongs don't make a right. But until SOMETHING is done it won't be taken seriously. Before anyone jumps to the defense of the LEO's let me say that I had 3 uncles in Law Enforcement and 1 nephew who is. I do not believe any of them would have been part of such as this. Not even if Ordered to do so. They would have most likely looked the other way in order to uphold the higher law the Constitution.

This is just a guess on my part, but I think most of the folks that I know, in LE, would have gone back to their bosses later and said "Nope....didn't find a single gun."

I don't think it would be worth getting shot over, but I would have thrown a little fit, let them take what they wanted, and get the heck out. (Y'all don't keep all your eggs in one basket, do ya?)

Typical Gestapo tactics of a FEW bad cops. Most LEO's are good cops. Several in my area know that in an OH Sh## situation here they can call on me for help if they need it extra " special duty" ammo ( which the EPD is not issued) or heavier firepower ( my .50) if needed. It's a shame a government city,county,whatever doesn't keep a lid on rouge officers. I agree with Poco until people say enough is enough and sue the Sh## out of those departments/governments they'll just think the next disaster they can do it again and again with impunity and nobody will stop them.

Wether you approve of the NRA or not, They did a documentry about the gun seizures. In the video, one of the SOBs who tackles an old lady to take away her leagally owned revolver is a CHP. Even in the military we were taught that there is such a thing as an unlawful order! The Mayor, Governor and cheif of police need to do some hard time for civil rights violations.

I think this does highlight a flaw in the LEO portion of the response. Disaster response should stay (Law Enforcement part) with the National Guard, or military. There is a rigid , functioning chain of command and discipline in place and a BS filter (the command structure).

Bad thing is, they were corrupt and poorly trained and managed before and the institution has not changed at all since Katrina

Let me amend my response. If you are able to get your hands on the DVD and watch it, you will see how well these ******** took care of the property they stole. Every last firearm is rusted to the point of uselessness! I also want to say that the officers enforcing this illeagal order need to be repremanded with a permanent black mark in their record and any who used overt unwarranted force need to be put in a cell as well. The people who instituted this gun grab need to make full restitution including pian and suffering, out of their own pocket NOT the peoples pocket as they over stepped their authority! Yeah, these libs sure and hell don't want me in any position of power!

Well while researching my states laws I stumbled across something that was very interesting pertaining directly to this subject. Sorry to bring up old stuff again but just trying to bring up the point that you may want to research your own states laws, laws pertaining to your own unique situation.This is what I found...

Short version- It's illegal to confiscate weapons in Ky. because of natural disaster. There are exceptions of course.
