I grew up in Englewood Florida, and a couple of the people who had homes on the islands close by, and didn't want to pay the toll for a private bridge that was put in, bought them. I believe that they didn't have them to long, because I don't think that they were really made for salt water. It was pretty neat watching them however, nice to see one is still around.
Only saw one up close once - in a parade.
I don't remember seeing it at the worlds fair, But I do remember seeing one at the International car show in NYC. Just before I retired and left Maine there was a DWK for sale in some little town on the New Hampshire border. I should have sprung for it.
Sarky, I had a Duck (DWK) in the late 70's when I ran EMA. That thing was a helluva' lot of fun and served as a great rescue diving platform. The "town fathers" (before I was a town father myself) made me dump it 'cause the maintenance expenses went out of sight.Quote:

How bad could maintenance have been on that thing? I would have liked to have one and convert it to diesel.
About $12,000 first year I had it. It went out to public auction. As a town official, I was ineligible to bid.Quote:
