The Jambalaya will not be missed.
I never had an MRE and don't know enough about it to consider stocking up. Thought I'd do a little research before I got a few samples and contemplated a large order.
This site was very informative and pretty much answered questions I didn't even know I had.

don't buy them unless you plan to use them; which means that if you have no emergency in the next couple years, you just bought x number of $10 meals you might not have spent $2 on if it hadn't been for the shelf life and heat 'n eat factor.
if it's just a handfull and they come in handy, i'm sure nobody would consider that a big deal. if it's a couple cases, you're looking at quite a gamble in terms of return on investment.
on the other hand, if you find yourself in a position where you need to use them during that period, they've probably paid for themselves and then some.
not to harp; but notice i said 'use' and not 'eat'... just can't bring myself to call it food outside of an emergency... jk. they're really not bad.
B - I've purchased quite a bit through http://www.longlifefood.com/ You can buy individual entrees rather than complete MRE's. They have a pretty good selection of meatless entrees that you might be interested it as well.
Good point Canid, good advice Crash.
I was interested in entrees only because I really don't eat all the other stuff that comes in a complete meal and wouldn't want to load up on junk calories unnecessarily.
I'll probably try a couple selections now with the idea toward ultimately supplementing my freeze dried Mountain House pouch stash. (5yr shelf life, and I like 'em)
Not having to boil water for MREs appeals to me and could be handy when just traveling, if nothing else.
I hear what you're saying...and felt the same way initially. We've grown to love the big meals, because you can spread them through your day. The cracker and peanut butter make a good morning treat with your coffee or the milkshake thing and the cookie makes a good snack mid-day if you're on the move. Because each is individually wrapped, they can be eaten at different times.
The A-Pak meals are the same thing. I also use the peanut butter and crackers for breakfast and choke down some osmotic raisins (God, I hate those things). The fig bars are great snack items, too. Lunch is usually the cheese spread and crackers. If I'm still hungry then I'll eat the cookie but I like to save it for dinner. Yeah, I splurge like that.
