I admit it I got a deal, best 10 bucks I ever spent.
Got a Cold Steel Finn Bear knife off the world's most popular auction website. I got the knife for 5.45 plus 4.55 insured shipping. It was new in the box. This knife sells for around $20 plus shipping on most websites. It's basically a puuko design. Krupp stainless, it came sharpenough for government work; but half an hour on my KME knife sharpener and I had it face shaving sharp. Only two things I'd change, the sheath is cordura nylon and has a very securely sown simple belt loop. A puuko has a free swinging belt loop that keeps the knife securely in place while allowing it to swing and pivot out of your way when you sit down in the car or a chair. I'm making plans to adapt the simple belt loop with some 100#+ spider wire and a salt water stainless steel ball bearing barrel swivel. The other thing is the grip is cross sectionally a tear drop and only feels really comfortable in your hand a couple of ways. I think it's something a person could get used to. Still for a no frills, everyday bushcrafting knife so far it is the best under 20 buck knife I've tested. I have split some kindling with it, cut up potatotes and onions for breakfast taters, shaved off 3 days of whiskers, sliced tomatoes, cut tent stakes, and the parts of a figure 4 trap, and cut cardboard boxes and after each test still had a nearly perfect edge. Only the cardboard required a retouch to get back to shaving sharp. The other only required stropping. Makes me wonder how much better the Cold Steel Sisu is to be over $200.
