Knife for a co-worker

I just finished this guy up for a co-worker who wanted to give his brother a gift. It still need some finishing on the handles. Please ignor the leather sheat. I worked my butt off and it still looks weird to me for some reason. What do you guys think? Be Honest please. What could I have done different. I don't like the small finger choil I put between the ricasso and the edge for one. What say you?

I like it just fine, I like the unique sheath and really it looks good to me.

I think it looks great! Very clean lines. I like the sheath too.

There is nothing I DON'T like about it. Oh, wait. Yeah, it's pretty shoddy. I wouldn't want you to embarrass yourself by giving that tacky old thing to your co-worker. Just ship it to me and I'll dispose of it for you. Sad, really sad.:innocent:

panchO, you are too critical. THat is excellent work. I would be proud to carry it.

Well both look good, no problem with either. I think what you see is the sheath not matching the curve of the blade. That disappears when sheathed, but viewed side by side I can maybe see what you're talking about. Nothing wrong with either, maybe not matched? Just being picky since I usually make only one style for myself.

I also think the sheath looks to big for the knife.

daaaaaaaaaayum. Thats nice. You forged that hay? Maybe being a little over picky (as i haven't even come close to making a knife of this "calibre") but i would have kept the point low. made it a drop point instead of having it curve back up. Thats just me. (and you said... be honest)

Yea I personally dont really fancy this style. I like drop points, but this is what the customer wants and who am I to argue.:gagged:

well, its a nice blade, even if it is for a customer... good job. a work of art. :art:

+1 to disliking the upturned point - too weak for a working blade, and subject to breakage. My other criticism is purely aesthetic, and may be due simply to the photography - but the basketweave stamping on the sheath doesn't show as crisp as I'd like. It's STILL a great piece though!

Yea I need to practice on some scrap pieces. I don't know if I didn't wet the leather enough, too much ar didn't strike the stamp hard enough. Thanks for your honesty, its what one needs to fix what is not being done right.

Panch0 it looks nice to me.

If you don't like the upswept point it isn't too late to change it. I don't think it would affect the sheath retention if you dropped the point some since the entire knife fits into it.

What kind of steel? and how about the specs on that beauty.

This blade was for a friend of mine and its the style he wanted. Its not my personal favorite style of knife. Actually what was worrying me about the sheath was the tip poking through the leather cause the tip and edge are scary sharp. The welt and the wet forming sit the blade where that won't happen.

The steel is 3/16" ATS34 with all stainless hardware. Stabelized Bubigna handles. It has an RC hardness of 59-60 and is cryo treated as well. It is a tad bit over 9" in length.

As I said, it's too bad that's such a poor job. You can send it to me and I'll get rid of it for you. Then you can make something nice for your co-worker. In fact, any knife you aren't positively 100% in love with, just send it over and I'll take care of it. I know how difficult it can be for artists to build something less than perfect (I'm that way myself).:innocent:
