Peregrine Falcons
These are pretty common around here. They are fascinating to watch. The efficiency with which they hunt is spectacular. This afternoon my wife and I managed to get in nine holes of golf. There is a little public course nearby that we affectionately refer to as the cow pasture. Actually, that may be insulting to cow pastures. The course is heavily wooded and sits near the St. Johns river. We probably saw about twenty Peregrines while playing. On the ninth hole there was on in the middle of the fairway, a couple of feet from my ball (go figure --- me --- in the middle of the fairway). As I walked closer, it wasn't moving. I could see that it was feeding on something, but wasn't sure what. I was about ten feet from it when it took off in flight - with a four foot snake dangling from it's talons. Wish I would've had my camera with me to share it with you.

We have them here in Indiana as well. They've adapted remarkably well to urban landscapes. I guess towering building or towering rock faces are pretty much the same to them. A lot more pigeons on the towering buildings, I'm sure. Squab anyone?

Only hawks and eagles around here. And turkey buzzards. Loads of them. :sneaky2:

Loads of hawks and buzzards, too. Not many eagles. Although they are starting to make a come back. The Northwest and Alaska have the eagle thing hands down. There are as plentiful out there as crow are here. I could never get enough of watching them.

Don't you just love those nature moments?

You bet. Hummingbirds, Indigo Buntings, Hawks. Yeah, it's pretty cool stuff.

Haven't seen quite as many hummers this year. Winter took its toll on the plants. They're coming back, but slowly. We put out a couple of extra feeders, but the hummers prefer the real thing - at least in my back yard.
