I spend alot of time in National Parks. National Parks with large predators that are teetering on the Endangered Species list, and that have densely populated campgrounds with people from all over the world. The vast majority of these folks do not understand the plight of these animals, or the behaviour of the animals- but they feel threatened by these animals. So, I am concerned about this Bill. Because of the impact it may have on wolves and Grizzlies in Yellowstone, Grand Teton and Glacier National Parks.

I am for the legislation- only if the firearms are not allowed to be used in animal encounters. Bear Spray is proven to be more effective in bear encounters than pistols anyway- so, I want the rules to stay the same in regards to animals.

I don't want some wussy pistolero from Long Island unloading on a bear because it was 100 yards away from him and his kids and he got scared and felt threatened so he shot the bear. So, even though I am pro gun rights, this legislation is a little troubling to me.

I am for anything that gives us back our right to bare arms. Besides, how many guys can hit a bear with a small handgun 100 yards out. You know, besides Ken and Hopeak. ;)

As is expected from MSDNC that article is a little misleading.

How the bill works is if you have a concealed pistol license in the state of say Tennessee and you want to go to Smoky Mountain National Park and carry, you can.

You have to have a license recognized by the state in which the park resides in order to carry a concealed weapon there.

Or, in other words, what the bill does is treat national parks like any other property in the state where they reside. If the state allows people to carry, the park will now too.

So some guy from NY isn't going to be able to carry just because he is there.

Good point, definitely not me. I'd have to get the bear good and angry and wait until it is almost on top of me to hit it.

I have no problem with the law. It always seemed absurd to me to be able to carry a concealed weapon, drive 10 feet onto federal land, and have to unload and case the thing. The same savage beasts that are outside the park are inside the park and usually drinking beer and playing loud music.

I believe the argument that shootings (of animals or people) will increase is just a red herring. Think about it. I carry concealed just about every place I go. The fact that I will be allowed to carry in a previously restricted area will not magically turn me or any other responsible gun owner into an irresponsible gun owner.

I read some of the comments after the article. I love how the left always portrays gun owners as drunken rednecks. OK, a few of us are (rednecks) but even we have thigns like college degrees and jobs.

The fact is that CCW holders are far less likely to commit a crime of violence than members of the general public. Obtaining a CCW means that you have never committed a felony, been convicted on drug charges, and have no history of domestic violence or mental illness. Mac
