Erunkiswldernssurvival has done such a great job with oil lamps and stoves I had to try one out. So, after frying up some bacon (MMMmmmmm) I poured the grease into a pint jar. I attached a coffee filter to a second jar and filtered the grease through the coffee filter. Just be careful as the wick and grease are hot. Don't ask how I know that just trust that's it's true.

Once I had the grease filtered, I poured it into a little bucket to be used as my lamp (ain't it cute?).

Then I used a fiberglass wick and supported it with a small stick until the grease firmed up.

And here it is ready for the wick to be trimmed.

Finally, a flame. I was quite surprised that there was no smell at all. I thought it would smell like bacon but it didn't. Like any other lamp, if the wick is too long it will smoke and too short (which it is here) you won't have much flame. But, since it's grease, it's pretty easy to adjust the wick.
