Laser fire starter DIY
Ok ok, I know this isn't exactly primitive, but if you're using a Bic you're only a couple seconds away from lasers. In the video, they mount it to a pistol laser sight but in reality you could keep the housing as small as a keychain LED!!

Burns through duct tape?! I'll light my tinder with that, thank you very much!

Thats pretty sweet haha.... i want one!

Cool, sounds like a neat project my kids would enjoy. (with supervision of course)

Yeah I am an electronics/tech guy so I mess with these type of things a lot. Just remember this thing is very dangerous and can burn your eyes permanently by just accidentally pointing it in your eyes for about half a second. I guess you could make it to light your tinder but also this is blu ray so the laser is going to run you $75-$120 plus they are very sensitive to being bounced around and moisture, I will just stick with my bic.

You can pick up a diode from the advertised website for $49. It still is expensive but how great would it be to replace one of your LEDs in your headlamp with one of these? Talk about multiuse tool! Hands-free worklight and then hands-free lighter, work with both your hands and still light a fire!
EDIT: self defense? lol. Just look at your attacker and he'll flee in pain

Cool.....but
This is a cool little gadget but thats about it. Probably dosent take abuse from outdoors to well and what about battery life? Kinda useless to me I would think. I will stick with bic or flint/mag., a lot more reliable. Cool trick though.

Yeah it is useless because if you bump it wrong then it won't work. I found this out the hard way by knocking over a ps3 with the blu ray in it. It is a cool gadget to play around with but wouldn't do any good outdoors.
