What's your reason???

I was just wondering what are your reasons for wanting to ditch the 9 to 5 (real world) ha, and heading for the backwoods. And how primitive would you go?
For me it's easy. Live simple and live free...
I believe the modern world is just nuts. crime, stress, economic crisis etc. I want no part of it. I realize we all have different perspectives so I would like to hear from some of you. Maybe i'm the one that's nuts, living in the woods and all. Some of my family thinks so. They just don't understand why I would sleep in the woods instead of a nice warm house with a comfy bed and all those nice amenities. Ahhh, the good life....

For me, I have no plans to ditch. While I want to learn more about skills and a lifestyle that I think should not be forgotten, the lifestyle that I'm living now is what I want. I enjoy having the ability to live simpiler and enjoy getting away to the woods or mountains. Future plans have me moving to the mountains, not to get away but rather enjoy the beauty.

I don't need a reason to ditch the 9 - 5. In fact I've never insinuated that I wanted to. I'm sure if a poll was taken and folks were to answer truthfully (which is unlikely). Most people don't want to ditch their current lives. It is just a romantic dream. Now don't forget I said "most" not "all". The majority of people in this country want to get as much as they can with as little effort as possible. That ain't happening in the bush. You have to work your butt off for everything you get. As I said "it's a romantic dream". Going camping for a few day or a couple week during nice weather is really cool. Now try it when the weather is the worst it gets in your chosen area.

I live in a nice house with gas and electricity now. Many years ago I lived in a shack with no amenities. (well our outhouse did have a door). I really like where I live now. It's real nice. I did spend all last winter trapping in the worst weather Prince William Sound could stir up. I was miserable for five month. I live a simple life. My wife, Me, the dogs and visits with the grandkids on the weekends. My life is such that I can venture into the woods every day if I choose.

So to give this pointless post a point. I don't have a desire to leave it all behind for the peace that one thinks they can get from living full time in the bush.

To all those who live off grid. I appalled you. But I'm not crazy, believing it is all fun and games. I've been there so I know it ain't.

For those who wish they could leave it all behind. Think long and hard. Also, don't burn any bridges. You may need a way out.

I'm not sure I could live like Hopeak or Wild Woman. Probably haven't got the "right stuff" but I'm pretty darned happy where I am. I enjoy getting out and practicing my skills, many of which my parents and grandparents had and used daily. I just don't want that to be forgotten and I want to pass that knowledge on to my kids and grandkids. I like to commune with nature but my life is pretty rewarding and I'm happy right here.

I never said whether that young NCO was female or male. So I reckon it could be construed the way you say it. Considering I was senior in rank to that young NCO, one could also say that the young NCO was under me as in the hierarchy of military rank. Further more, I am a gentleman. So therefore if I were involved in a fraternizing relationship with said young NCO, I would consider it a "Don't ask don't tell" situation. Because a gentleman does not discuss such things.

To clear things up a bit. The young NCO was a male and junior in rank to me as well as being under my direct supervision.

On a personal note: I felt the "Don't ask don't tell" as it applies to gay's in the military, was an abomination!!!

OK i do like a few but very few! And no I''m SUPER HUMAN much more than the average. And I LOVE ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!and i also pray for those that i don't like. I don't hate them just will not waste my time with them. If someone wants me to prove somthing i will not. and praying for the ones i don't like is NOT a waste of my time it helps them. I will also help anyone in there time of need. I still don't like them very much though.

One of my biggest reasons for getting away from a population base is the fact that Bird Flu IS coming for sure.
I want to give my family the best chance available.
Another is by growing our own stuff we know for sure that it isn't sprayed with toxic cr@p that may have effects on us and that our crops are not genetically modified.
Machines are good, tractors, chainsaws, generators etc but I could probably live without them if I had to.
I live in a town of about 3,000 people at the moment and it feels crowded to me.

We did ditch the umbilical cord of living with a road connection but had already gotten rid of a "normal" work schedule long before. We live out in the woods now but in a cozy cabin with plenty of good books, dogs, food etc.
Our reason was that we liked the wilderness better than town, so why would we keep staying in town?! Where I lived before outside of a village with road access, I lived more simply in many ways than I live here now, and there I also had a lot of wild animals around. But there is something about the abscence of human neighbours and making the accessability of a place kind of hard that adds another dimension to things. On average, I now spend about 3 weeks out of the year among my fellow humans in town, the rest of the time I'm out in the bush. It probably warps us in lots of ways, but I suspect in all the ways that enable us to keep on living in the wilderness.

Quoting some Rockwell, there, Klkak? That's an old song, for sure. It's funny, though, because I just heard recently on someone's "halloween" mix. Brings back some memories!

I've been thinking about my 9-5 a lot recently. I don't love my job all that much right now. But it's good security until I can figure out what it is that I do want to do. That being said, I feel I get a lot out of my life when I'm not working. I love my wife and son, and take advantage of the little things. I feel that you shouldn't be so caught up in what you do that your identity hinges on that. I think it's a lot more intrinsic than that. I will be me, regardless of my job. (thankfully).

I have nearly always worked in service industries (police, fire, emergency services, health and military). The exceptions to this were a few ++High pressure jobs with defence multi-nationals. I guess I was getting kinda jaded and needed to get back to life the way I think it should be. In the past few years I have gone more tribal and regained the earth connections I pushed to the side for so many years. Back to bowhunting, tracking ,living in the bush.

Initially, I thought cabin fever and living on my own would drive me crackers, but I was wrong. I love it. After several years now I do not regret a day of my decision. It was super liberating to ditch the mortgage etc.

I agree with klkak though, it's good not to burn bridges, and I still work for friends 'in town' as needed to keep my skills and $$ up.
