My Week-end

Some of you have been posting pics of the time you spend with your kids so here's some of me and mine. Admittedly, they are a bit older. It was pretty darn uncomfortable this week-end with temps at 90 but the humidity was 86%! It was muggy in the buggy!

The guy on the left is yours truly. The one in the middle is my oldest, Adam. The one on the right is my youngest, Dave. Dave is the one that has hiked around most of the country, England and South Africa.

Home sweet ground cover. We found a second pond after bushwhacking for about 2 hours through brush over hill and dale. The guys used the tent. Dad slept on the ground cover. The cool night air was a welcome reprieve from the days heat!

Filtering water before we started on Sunday. Being out with the guys made it a great week-end despite the humidity.

Where were you at ? Thase are some cool (albeit humid&hot) pics,and looks like y'all were having a good time!

We hit Deam Wilderness again this week-end. We are hoping to do Knobstone Trail in October. That means a timed hiked at Deam probably next month to get ready for Knobstone. For those of you in Georgia, Knobstone is a great deal like north Georgia where the AT starts. It's pretty much uphill no matter which way you walk. And the inclines are brutal just like Georgia.

Yeah, the trails I have been on are beautiful,though I do tend to stray from the marked trails.

Same here. I take a satellite shot of the area we are going to be in and look for ponds or other features we want to find. Then we get as close as we can and cut out through the brush. The second pond above was really difficult to find because of all the hills and valleys. Mostly dead reckoning.

Some of the areas in Deam are tough to navigate after last year's storms. Some areas are inundated with downed trees making the trek really slow.

We kicked up three deer including one that exploded out of downed tree about 30 feet in front of us. She had layed down in there to keep cool and we jumped her when we walked up on her. Scared us to death. We were probably scared worse than the doe.

any ideas of which trailheads you are goning to hit? Washington county has several through,some a little longer than others,I have been on the shorter ones,since now I generally go out on my own since my oldest son is married and out of the house,his wife isn't very good about letting him venture out without her,and she really isn't the woodsy type:eek:

We haven't laid out the logistics yet. My guess is Spurgeon Hollow Trail Head to start and head south. I doubt dad is going to make the whole trail. We'll only have three days to make 56 miles and I strongly doubt I'll be able to do 18-19 miles a day on those kind of hills. Maybe if I roll down and get enough momentum I can coast part of the way up the next one.:D

That is a beautiful trail,and goes past where I caught that little bass last fall at Potters lake.

Great pics Rick, and good thinking. Always bring along a couple of young guys who are tough enough to pack you out on a stretcher when the temps are in the 90's and the humidity is 86%

Nope that was Indiana,he said the knobstone trail is much like northern Georgia.
