Wolf Spider Bite
Slow day. I thought I'd share this. Two weeks ago last Monday I was bitten by a wolf spider on the upper stomach. You can have worse things happen to you. The bite turned out to be about the size of a goose egg but the interesting thing is I didn't feel anything at any time. Not even when the little beggar nailed me. A bit tiring since I spend all night outside howling at the moon but that aside...(barump bump) it still has not healed completely but almost. I happened to be at the doctors a couple of days after the bite and he looked at it. He told me to apply an antibiotic ointment to it because the worst thing about a wolf spider bite is they are very susceptible to staph infections. Who knew? There was quite a bit of venom injected. That's the reason it was so large. It was nearly two weeks before I could actually see the fang marks. Anyway, if you suddenly have a large read splotch that doesn't hurt or itch then you have probably been bitten. Just keep an antibiotic on it. This isn't me but this is what they look like:

Heh, I guess one of the most common questions I am asked is how someone can change into a werewolf. Thanks for supplying the answer.
You know, even the heavy hitters like brown recluses and black widows can go unnoticed until the flesh starts dissolving around the bite. Good information and a good photo because, a lot of times you never know you've been bitten until you notice...that.

I hear ya....sounds nasty.
Had one of the big black and yellow spiders bit be in the neck....took about 2 months to heal.....just was an open sore for a long time.

Keep an eye on that that it doesn't turn into cellullitis (that bacterial infection your doctor mentioned.)
That put me in the hospital once after getting stung by a half dozen ground-dwelling yellow jackets. Leg swelled up tight with red streaks in a matter of hours. Overnight stay and IV anti-biotics. Don't know which was worse, the stings or those IV drugs. Had to stay in bed at home with leg elevated for 3 days, then took months to clear up.
You might want to change up the ointment you use too. Your aren't supposed to use some of those anti-biotic types for more than a few days at a time or you might have a skin reaction to those as well.

Just it be glad it wasn't a female with babies. Wolf spiders carry around their young like this ........

Looks strikingly similar to a tick bite gone Lyme disease.

At one of our camp outs in Cochran Mills, Georgia, there was a big wolf spider in the fire ring and one of us decided to throw a rock near it to scare it out. It was a she, and she exploded into a crawling cloud of baby spiders. The reaction was funny.
I don't think I've ever seen so many big spiders in one place (except Florida, but that goes without saying). The raccoons were riding them like horses...they had to have something to help them carry their locksmithing equipment.

When I was a kid I was swinging on a swing with my hands above me. I felt something on my arm, looked up and it was a spider. I slapped at it and like that picture about a million baby spiders went running every where. Now you know what's wrong with me.
