Part for Sharps rifle
My brother-in-law gave me jigs and fixtures to make the part shown that is for a Sharps rifle. I think the part trims the paper that
holds the gun powder.
What is this part called and what rifle does it fit. Is there a demand for this part and how should these parts be marketed, if I made some?
Thanks, Jim

Jim, what you have there is the breech seal plate for the percussion Sharps rifle.
The end opposite the curve should have two prongs for attaching to the breech block/trigger guard trigger guard opening lever so that the whole thing slides down when opening the breech.
You insert the paper cartridge in the chamber and when you close the trigger guard the plate slides up and cuts off the tail of the paper cartridge with that curved section, which is supposed to be sharp, while sealing the rear of the chamber at the same time.
In the cartridge models the sharp edge was eliminated and the plate simply exposed or closed the breech.

The demand for such parts would be very limited due to the supply of Sharps rifles and their shooters being a small segment of the shooting fraternity.
Sharps rifles are one of those luxury items that most everyone wants and only a few are willing to shell out the cash to possess. Then there is another break between those that possess a Sharps and those that shoot a Sharps. Many of them never meet gunpowder.
