Remembering VE Day.
On this day 8th May 1945 Germany capitulated and the war in Europe was over. I found this timeline in the Guardian Newspaper interesting.

It was to be several more months before VJ Day and finally the end of the War.

I cannot image how difficult life was for Londoners in particular but the whole of England during those terrible times. A good time to give thanks to those that gave so much so that we can enjoy our freedoms. Allies to the end.

We really don't hear about it too much over here.....But I'll bet it was a big deal when the bombs stopped.
MF was in the Pacific, as were 2 uncles....1 uncle and an aunt in Europe....FIL wounded and paraplegic in Europe.
They have all passed....but their legacy of freedom along with the Allies,.... we still enjoy.
Thanks for posting.

It certainly does make you grateful. That a whole generation from all corners of the world took up the call and fought such evil never ceases to humble me.

I was impressed by the message from the King and by the picture of a young Queen Elizabeth. Although I am not British and was born after WWII, I remember a quotation from the Queen Mother when it was suggested that she and her daughters leave London because it was being bombed:
The girls will stay as long as I am here,
I will stay as long as the King is here, and
The King will not leave
