For the thread, here is another moment I had. I worked security for a good handful of years for a local healthcare network. During that time, I worked all different locations including the corporate headquarters which was a former hospital that had been converted. One evening, during the winter, I think it was around 8:00pm I was doing some interior building checks. The way the floors were designed in the main section of the building, they were a "V" shape and the main entrance to each floor is at the bottom of the "V". I entered the fifth floor and heard a few ladies down the right hallway talking along with some soft crying. I couldn't make out what was being said, but could make out that they were female voices. I figured a few ladies had stayed late at work and were talking and/or dealing with something. So as not to startle them, I let the main door close kind of loud in addition to the door chime and I started to check the left hallway first making sure I made enough noise. Things like jangling my keys, checking doors and over exaggerating my steps as I try not to sneak up on people unless I have good reason too. Once I was done with the left hallway, I walked back and proceeded down the right hallway from where I heard the ladies and along the way gently calling out "hello". I got to the end of the hallway and no one was there. I knew no one had left through the main door cause I would have heard and seen that. The only other exit was a stairwell at the end of the hall which sends a silent alarm to our dispatcher. I called him and asked if he received an alarm on that door. He did not and I even later reviewed the alarm history which confirmed it.
A few days later, I asked one of the other security officers than had been there for over 30 years what the history of that floor was. He said prior to the hospital closing down, it was a breast cancer treatment floor. That caught my attention, thinking of the female voices and the female crying. He asked what was up and I told him about the situation. He kind of nodded his head for a few seconds. After that, him and others started telling me of their experiences throughout the old hospital and of the buildings surrounding it. Evidently, the unspoken rule is don't talk about it to the newer guys until they have an experience so as not to scare them away. Needless to say, that was not my last experience there. There is some freaky stuff about that building. They did tear down a few sections of the building and my old co-workers say things have decreased after that.
