Hello from Texas
this is our first time and we are trying to get info to start getting our survival kit together. My husband and I got the book SAS Survival handbook and have been reading it and gathering things out of it. So any help from this site will be helpful too.

Welcome home. The best way to start out is to identify what you believe are your most likely threats. Rank them from most likely to least likely and begin by trying to mitigate the most likely first. For example, you might consider house fire as one of the most likely so you would want to make certain you have smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, house or renters insurance at an appropriate level, pictures or video of the inside of your home and stored in a safe place, planned evacuation routes, planned meeting place outside, etc. Doing that will give you the biggest bang for your buck and spend your resources on the things you are most concerned about. Complete the first item on the list then move on to item 2. You'll find that many of the things you did for item 1 will probably apply to item 2. As you get further down the list your preparations will become easier because many of the previous items will overlap into subsequent items.

Welcome from another person in TX. Rick has a wealth of information so if you have a specific question (some are difficult to search for) post it and he and others will respond with mostly good ideas. My ideas may be way out in left field so be aware of that. JK
Glanced at your profile: Assume you wish to be prepared incase y'all are stuck in the wilderness somewhere in N.A. and just driving to civilization is not an option. (ATV/4 wheeler fails or whatever) That is my most basic need as well, so I'm constantly learning new skills and improving on old ones and trying out new/different gear. Bunch of us like that here.
