We started out intent on duck hunting. But, that really didn't pan out. So, we just explored parts of the everglades that we don't spend a good deal of time in anymore. In fact I don't think I have been in this portion since 1990.
Unfortunately I only brought my cell phone as I had planned on being in the water the whole time.
We walked up on a rookery and as the birds (a mix of wood storks, herons, and egrets) shifted further away from us a gator came cruising out toward where the birds were landing. That sucker turned sideways and he had what was probably the longest snout to eye measurement I have ever seen on a gator. I have seen some big gators! He was to far away from us to get a decent picture with the phone.
We had a ribbon snake on the road and as I took its picture the thing actually opened its mouth and slithered to me. Like he was gonna scare me away. It was too funny.
