slinging a 94 winchester

Picked up set of grovtec sling for my Winchester 94 in 30 wcf. The swivels cost $6.95 for the pair, actually shipping cost more. I really like these swivels, they are a non-detachable model. All I had for a sling was a mosin nagant leather sling, it worked well.

Looks like the one that clamps on the ammo magazine for the front?

Yup, it's on of those style. This particular model the mag tube has to be removed in order to install the clamp on swivel. The swivel completely encircles the mag tube.

One of these days, I guess I should get a 30-30.....
It's too bad that they haven't killed a deer since the interweb was invented.

I would like to get the same style of sling swivels for my 71, 86 in 45-70 and my 94 in 38-55. I haven't done a search for models to fit those rifles but I've not seen any in my travels either.

You really need to get a 30-30, how in the blue blazes have you made it all this time without one?

I have the same kind on my old '94. They work quite well, best way to put a sling on a levergun as far as I'm concerned. Nice rifle!

Edited: Just realized my trusty '94 is the one pictured in my avatar. Manufactured in 1913 it's and oldie but still works great!

My '94 is in .32 special.......LOL that will kill a deer.
Actually I do have a Handi Rifle in 30-30.....

BTW I am truly needy...don't own a .308 either, not even a barrel for the Handi.

man oh man Hunter we need to take up a collection, you have needs LOL. I won't even mention how many .308 rifles that I may have.

I don't know for sure.... but they call the 38-55 the .375 win now......case just a tad different......have a Handi Buffalo Special in 38-55.

Looks like the rim and base are mostly the same , so tube should be real close.

The 30-30 and the .38-55 do share the same rim and case body. The .38-55 is a touch longer. The .375 Win is very similar in appearance to the .38-55, indeed, it was intended as a replacement. However the newer .375 has thicker brass and is loaded hotter for more velocity, so you wouldn't want to try and fire it from your old .38-55. I don't think it would chamber, since I think the case is a touch longer than the older .38-55.

I have no compelling reason to try a .375, even reloads would not be necessary. I have plenty of 38-55 cases and such.

So do I, seems some one always has like 12 old odd rounds at a show...prices like $2.50 each.

My 38-55 is a H&R Handi Rifle BS....that I got from a past member here....Supposed to handle most any factory load.

I have to admit that I sold some of my cases to collectors. There is a bunch of newer cases from Canada. Some of the others are fairly old, they come in a cardboard box with a metal liner.
Thankfully there is a couple bullet molds in the stuff too. My ancestors set me up really well.

After thinking about that for a while I consulted my edition of Cartridges of the World and discovered I was wrong in my saying the .375 Win was longer than the .38-55. In fact the opposite is true. I am simply correcting myself and reiterating to any future readers of this thread. DONT fire a .375 in a .38-55, it WILL chamber and bad things will happen if you pull the trigger. There's enough bad information in the net without me adding to it.

I have always been leery of slings that connect to the magazine tube. They are light metal tubes, i never considered them ideal for yanking on with a sling.

But the long barrel n short wood on that rifle make it hard to go any other way, except maybe a sheath. Sportsmans guide make a cool shotgun sheath that will fit most lever guns too. I have a sheath for my 1895 in 45 70, use it on my backpack.

I've been thinking of ditching the tube type sling attachment and going with a rear barrel band. I have 92 Winchester with a spot to attach a swivel at the rear barrel band, may go that route.

I looked over my 92 and realized I misspoke the swivel stud is on the nose cap.
