Nothing wrong with that.......DW has been talking about taking a course and get her permit as well.
Good luck.
Thanks.
She's pretty excited about the whole thing.
Glad she's stepping out and trying new things.
Hope you get a good class instructor. I'm constantly amazed at what isn't taught sometimes when listening to new buyers at a gun shop.
The good instructors go through the most important of the MA laws. Mostly how not to get gigged carrying any gun from here to there.
Hope you have a good police chief if you want that LTC. Most of the chiefs in towns on opposite ends of the state are into issuing restricted licenses, no CCW. If you live somewhere in the middle (other than Worcester, Lowell and Lawrence) you have a 75% chance of getting an unrestricted.
Remember: Reason for applying for LTC license = All Lawful Purposes. Do not self-restrict yourself.
I'm glad for you and sad for you that you must jump through hoops to exercise a guaranteed right. Good luck in your class.
It's crazy.
I have never been in any trouble, well, none that would count as anything.
But this state has a tendency to make you feel like you're doing something wrong applying for a LTC.
I have lived in the same small town since I was 10 yo. in Worc. county, but not the city.
I'll let you all know how the class and applying for the LTC in my town goes.
I can tell you,for the wife and I to take the class it's $70 each,so $140.
And then $100 each for the permit for 6 years, that's another $200.
I won't tell you that a lifetime permit in Indiana is about $120+/- and no class. That comes with open or concealed carry. Your choice.
You can live in a town here all your life but if the unelected police chief is an anti, you will never see the CCW. My town licensing officer was great. They did the 10-card right there (some towns make you go to the State Police barracks to do it.) And the chief only wanted a meet and greet. He showed me the 4" thick notebook on the shelf behind his desk and said, in town only he and the licensing officer take the course to study that pile of state gun laws. The patrol officers in town call him if there are questions. But to be careful in any other town. Likely as not, even the chief won't know the laws. And they change every year (and some new nastiness is currently brewing in the state house, a new bill filed last Tuesday by Speaker DeLeo.) Bottom line, he said keep it locked up and out of sight unless you have a CCW and it's on your person. Don't lay it on the seat next to you.
Good guy. Had my CCW in 3 weeks. But the next town over? I know a guy at the range whose license has expired and still no word on his renewal paperwork. It's been almost a year. Town says the state has it. State says the town has it. Some new applicants there have been waiting longer than a year just to get an appointment with the licensing officer. And the new bill would give chiefs such as that one more "discretion" on FIDs for hunting, rifles, and shotguns which right now are Shall Issue. Sucks.
Good luck. Let us know how it turns out.
I've had my FID since I was 18 yrs. old.So roughly 33 years.
S,o I already have shotguns and rifles. I'm looking to upgrade to a LTC class A.
The class was great. The officers even touched on "Assault" rifle BS. And said told us all to ignore the news, there are NO assault rifles.
I got the distinct feeling that even the police are sick of all the overbearing gun laws.
Even finished the class with the video of the VP saying "use a shot gun" and a montage of women getting kicked by a shot gun blast.
Then showing the VP stating how an AR is cumbersome and hard for a woman to fire.
Then a 110 pound woman rocking an AR on target. Funny........
Now to make an appointment with the local licensing officer.
Sounds like an ok class. At least you didn't get a police officer giving you wrong info like in my hunter ed class.
Wisconsin accepts Hunter Safety courses as instruction, all I needed was a copy, a number, and $50 bucks
Well,it looks like it's going to be a couple weeks before my wife and I will get an interview with the local licensing PO.
I will keep yall informed about how hard this will be in the "liberal' bastion.
And my town happens to be a green town with no problems issuing a class A.
Yesterday I renewed my Concealed Pistol License, which actually didn't expire until my birthday in August. It took me about a half an hour and $115 . I can pick it up after June 27th but my existing permit is good until my birthday in August.
I got home today and the PD called and asked if Thursday early evening would be ok.
That's a good sign. :)
Went for interview yesterday.
Licensing officer was really cool and said I should have it in 4-6 weeks(A unrestricted). :)
Yeah it's a pain in my state, but it would be un-American not to go for it.
Wife goes in a couple weeks.
Rock on! Everyone who can, should apply for a license in this state.
Thanks Lowkey,
The licensing officer said that he was doing the renews first.
In case someone had one that was about to expire. Also the prints ect. are already on file.
My wife should be going this week or next. She was a bit nervous till she went with me and met the LPO.
Got it yesterday.
5 weeks to the day from the interview with the LEO.
Class A unrestricted. Wife is still waiting for her interview, but should be next week as I checked the list.
Yesterday the legislators in this state actually dropped language in a new bill that would have allowed police chiefs to deny an FID on "suitability".
They still have pepper spray as a "need an FID" to buy.
This state is unreal.
