What is the best type of turkey call for purring
Not trying to be funny,but there is no one answer,opinions will play a large roll in the answer.With that said,I have turkey hunted many seasons,using many different calls with good success.One day I decided to make my own calls,they to worked as well as store bought calls.Then I took it a step further and learned to use my natural voice and was successful also.The best call would be the one that you are comfortable with,conventional wisdom says less movement is the important factor.
A lot will depend on your technique as well. If you are interested, I've had good luck with these guys. Their prices are reasonable and they have been good to deal with.

That's a pretty limited question.
Good callers can use many differ kinds and types, as well as their mouth.
I prefer a box call.....in wet weather a slate and wing bone.....but that is me.
Best purring I have ever heard, and one that got a responses from a turkeys alot, was a diaphragm mouth call, in the mouth of a great caller.
Strangely enough what sounds good to people, may not sound good to a turkey.
Visit a sporting good store before turkey season and you will hear all the want-a-bies, trying to impress the others in the store how good they are.
Haven't ever seen a turkey come running ....in a store....yet.
I was once told not to buy a call local, unless I wanted to sound like all of the other hunters in the woods...

The tom kept coming, so I started calling just like she did...man, sounded weird, but he ran right in to 10 yards when I took him out.
Love it when a plan comes together.
I don't need the biggest tom in the woods, just a dumb one that thinks I sound sexy.
That kinda taught me that there is no best way, .....just what works, here, today, at this time of day, with this bird, now, this time.
More time in the woods, listening and "do what they do, today" is my method.

I use a slate or my mouth. I have never gotten the knack for diaphragm mouth calls. I don't have a box call. But, my brother has one and uses diaphragms, his mouth and a slate. My dad uses a box call along with the others.
My choice is a Little Deuce Double Glass from H.S. Strutt with a Knight & Hale Super Striker. I can get consistent and controllable purrs in most weather conditions.
