Yaktrax
This winter has brought us some unusually cold and icy weather. Slipping or falling on an icy surface can be a life-altering event. I posted about this product in the Forums about 4 years ago, and I thought that this would be a good time to mention it again. Unlike some here, my "work clothes" don't lend themselves to wearing boots. Most of my business hours are spent in dress shoes, which aren't good for much except looking decent with a suit. However, after taking a few diggers on ice about 6 years ago, I picked up a couple of pairs of these, and they really work:

I'll second that.
Had a pair for a long time, rubber actually dry rotted. Bought a replacement pair this year. I also got a set of their XTR's for my bunny boots (its a really tight fit on those but do-able).

They are great, I just can't stand their name. It always gives me the image of a trail of puke. Yak.... Tracks.... yuck!

I got a pair each of the Pro models for the wife and I before a hike up in the mountians last March. The trail (Alum Cave going up to Mt. Leconte) is well known for having ice on it early in the year. It had plenty on it and I have to say the YakTrax lived up to their claims. I am very happy with mine. For city use I can't think of anything else I would want.
