Homemade Dehydrator
Hello, I'm new to the group but thought I's share a simple idea. I made a large homemade dehydrator from an abandoned broken upright freezer. I've seen these online before so I made me one. It is pretty simple...these are the steps ...
1) obviously acquire a freezer box.
2) cut a hole towards the top on the side and install a vent.. I used a 3' goose neck vent like a hot water vent.
3) place a hot plate on the inside bottom
4) place a fan beside but away from the hot plate.. any kind of low air movement fan will work.
5) drill a whole in center of front door and install a thermometer. I use a $7.00 indoor/outdoor digital one. Works fine
I ordered 12 'replacement' dehydrator trays on eBay for $4 each.
Google temps for dehydrating various fruits and veggies....and for Jerky recipes.
I now have jars and jars of bananas, apples, oranges, satsumas, mushrooms, fish jerky, venison jerky, beef jerky..all kinds of stuff and I have less than $100.00 invested in the whole rig.
I hope someone else can enjoy this as much as I have.

Welcome home. We have a number of homemade dehydrator plans on here. Just do a search.
Don't forget to disconnect the door lock mechanism so some kid doesn't get locked inside and can't get out.
