I was reading this page: http://www.survivalblog.com/ and the first article on it has to do with defense of retreats... today, tomorrow it may be some other subject. What's your take on the article? and maybe we should send this to Spud??? :rolleyes: Not that in Wilderness Survival we are necessarily dealing with retreat security but it is an interesting article.
Ridge - I just don't believe in the SHTF stuff. A tad too extreme in my book. To even think about killing someone I find in my garden is just too bizarre for me to even think about. I have PLENTY of zucchini. They can help themselves.
If you read the next article, the guy made a "great purchase". He bought a plastic bucket of "instant food" that will be good until 2022. Heeellloooo? Do you really want to eat something that is 14 years old? Crazy stuff.
Ridge - The Government will protect you and your family. Everything is going to be fine. They (The Government) have lots of food, and a strategic Fuel supply. Everything is under control. Homeland Security, The National Guard, The State Police, everyone is dancing to the same music now. Don't worry, It is under control.
Yea, what hopeak said......everything will be just fine pal. Relax, apply for another credit card, buy a bigger SUV with spinning rims, drink and be merry. That is what life is all about.

An interesting read. The premise of his questions were generated from a novel, where apparently they were living in a post world wide nuclear war. Active imaginations aside, it is certainly not beyond the realm of possibilities. In the blog I read scenarios that were post apocolyptic and every day defense. I think that there is an important distinction between the two. There are SHTF scenarios that take place on a daily basis (look at the current flooding). I think that the chances of a world wide scenario that they describe is remote.
I know a few zucchini's around my place doesnt go very far. :(

You guys crack me up. It just seems like everyone has their own opinion about how things are going to go belly up. Aliens and their spaceship behind the comet, food riots, economic collapse, super volcanoes, zombies. I just don't worry about any of it. If it happens, ain't much I can do about it anyway. It's a lot more likely that I'll have a house fire or get stomped on by a tornado. That's stuff I do prepare for.
Anyone know how to clean a zombie bite? Itches like crazy.

Wouldn't this be the perfect time to try to get like minded people to make a change in the way things are now for the better. People helping people would make more sense than a stand off unless the idiots that have no care of anothers well being cross the line. Just my opinion.
the zombocalypse is comming, do not doubt. that aside, survivalism, wilderness survival, etc. is nothing to be paranoid about. if you have an interest in preparing for such disasters, more power to you; but yeah, you don't need to get so serious about it.
Not to be a pessimist or anything, but imho, a few people can't really make a difference in the world. Just look at China and Tibet. Beautiful dreams and gorgeous ideals get trampled under the jackboot of the system every time.Quote:
