I was a bit skeptical when I looked at your first link but after reading the second link I think its a cool little tool. Good value as well. I wonder how well it keeps an edge?
I have a tri-fold entrenching tool and one of the older wooden handled WWII type.
Well, mine is military issue so that doesn't happen.
Here's one that I throw in my backpack, or even my daypack. The top picture is just to give you an idea of the size when stored. For its size and intended uses, works pretty good for me.

Thats a slick little unit crash......cool. Ive never seen anything like it.
It's handy. Coleman makes them. Picked it up on a close out sale for about 4 bucks.
Okay. I guess the joke is on me but I don't get it.
1. I have an M1967. That's the Tri-fold
2. I have an M1943.
Both are US and I've never had an issue with either one. Neither one has bent nor have I broken either one.
Now, care to let me in on the joke?
Sam - don't worry about it. Here, we are all everyday people.
A friend has one, swears by it, uses it for traping and camping, thinks it is a great tool.
No offense taken. I really didn't understand and if there was a problem I wanted to know about it. I suspect my use of the tools is a lot different and a lot more infrequent than your history with it. Probably the reason I've never had a problem. I assure you I have yet to dig the first fox hole with either one while out and in the woods. But I can dig a mean cat hole!
for myself
just as i will always pick a full tang over a folding knife
i would prefer a solid one-piece handle over a folding shovel
not that i wouldn't try one if there was no other option
I have one of the Cold Steel Shovels! I love it!
It Does Hold An Edge Well! It would make short work out of anyone or things that gets slapped up side their Head, Arm, Leg, Torso. It is a great defense weapon and is often over looked as a weapon, by most people(cops and rangers included). It also makes short work of 4 to 6 inch branches for my fire. Digs cat holes and trenches.
I stopped caring a hatchet and machete because the shovel will do the work of those tools. I drilled a hole in the handle and wrapped it in 550 cord to give it a better grip(less slick when bloody).
I Would Recommend: You give one a try. Once you start caring it you will wonder what you did without it! I could see me (if it came to it) going out for a week without a knife and using the shovel for that too.
The Edge is good when you get it. A bit of file work makes it even more formidable as a tool or other! The sheath works well and I have yet to have a shovel fall out.
Those of you who have used their folding Army shovel, in combat, as a weapon, know it is effective. This shovel is a vast improvement over the folding shovel as a weapon or tool.
Don
Granted, a shovel can be used as a weapon. That's not why I carry my shovel into the wilderness though. The Cold Steel looks like a good tool, but my primary use for it would not be as a weapon.
