I went to town earlier, and guess what? the Olympic Torch relay was going through. For a small town like Kettering it was a big deal! I didn't get much of a view though.

When the olympics was in Atlanta they ran the torch around in circles inside the U.S. for 6 months to insure every local celebrity in every podunk town had a chance to run 5 steps with it.
I think they took the short route between Athens and London this trip.
I wish they would show more of the shooting sports on TV coverage, but expecting that from our media is a true laugh. 3 straight weeks of shooting competition at world class levels over the course of 15 olympic meets and I have never seen a minute of coverage by out TV networks.
During the winter olympics they do give about 30 minutes to the biathalon, but not one second of coverage to the more extensive summer games.
Most of the people carrying the torch here, are people chosen for their good works and such. Some possible future Olympians are also doing it. There's a smattering of celebs too.
Wow, that's sad. We get a lot coverage of the less run of the mill sports. Can you access BBC iplayer? I'm sure there will be plenty to choose from there. Or does a channel over yonder have an iplayer facility?
Most of out coverage involves the doing of local (state participants) present and past (lot's of past.....)....and how they are doing and such.
I think it would be cool to see that at least once.......
Good for you. I'm glad you got to see it. That would be neato in my book. The Olympics represent so much possibility about the goodness of man (women, too).
My son and I went to see it here when the runners came through town, I live in a city next to Vancouver, the few weeks of excitement was pretty interesting indeed.
I actually got to be part of the torch procession (not carrying) as the torch transitioned from land, to water, and then transferred to helicopter. It was definitely a cool event.
Hey, Jimmy! Not to get off track, but have you been to Vancouver's Celebration of Light? It's coming up this year on July 28, Aug 1 and Aug 4. Viet Nam, Brazil and Italy will be competing this year.

Rick, yes I have been a couple times a number of years ago. From where I live I can hear the percussion and even see a few of the highest fireworks go off. When my kid is a few years older and can appreciate it a bit more we will take him out to it.

Ha! I wish, the ticket sales were a shambles and were overpriced. I gave up. Now it's come to light some countries are selling their allocation for stupid money.
What is this world coming to. First filthy money, now stupid money. Ah, for the good old days when a Continental was clean and of reasonable smarts. Even if it wasn't worth a penny.
