New knife. My review.
So typically I don't do much gear review. What works for one person may not work for another. Add in preferences and prejudices and it typically turns into "mine is better"
I picked up a new knife today and I really love it.
It's the SOG tech bowie.
It's full tang, got some weight to it, and it comes sharp as h*ll out of the box.
It's very comfortable strapped on and it comes with a ballistic sheath for a variation of mounting options.
I wandered around in the woods for about 6 hours today. I fileted 1 fish and performed a bunch of other various tasks with it. Still as sharp as out of the box.
Here's the catch, it costs aprox. $125. I was lucky, it cost me $15 out of pocket. I live down the street from a Bass Pro Shop and had a bunch of gift certificates.
If you're willing to spend the money, and looking for a good fixed blade belt knife... This baby certainly has my endorsement.
I've got a picture I'd like to show ya, but I can't, for the life of me, figure out how to do that from my iPhone... Too much tech for this guy.

SOG makes some nice knives. Are you sure it's full tang? Looks like it might be a stick tang to me.
-
No, it is indeed full tang. According to SOG, all of their Bowies are full tang.
-
Not meaning to be confrontational - and as I said - they make great knives (I'm kind of partial to their Super Bowie) - but I believe they have full length tangs, not full tangs. With a full tang knife the tang is as wide as the handle. The handle would be in two pieces and metal would be showing top, bottom and end. Doesn't really matter I guess - good, well built knife.
-
Definitely full length tang... All my full tang knives are like you said. I prefer full tang as I've had others break on me.
A SOG rep told me it was full tang, he may indeed have misspoke and simply meant full length tang. I don't really know for sure as I haven't taken it apart. It's got a pretty beefy handle. And certainly has that "full tang feel".
I don't know for sure, just parroting what the SOG rep told me. I will defer to your knife expertise though.
But, like you said, Good and well built knife! Either way, I'm not disappointed.
EDIT: the only reason I talked to the rep was to ask him about the tang. I went and window shopped first. Found the ones I liked, then went online for some reviews. Couldn't find info easily about the tang, so I emailed SOG directly. He told me it was full tang, all their Bowles are full tang. Again, he could've simply meant full-length tang.

.... And with all the gift cards I had... Less than $20 out of pocket? It was a steal!!

SOG makes great tools. I use the Fasthawk and Tactical Tomahawk, but have yet to use a knife by SOG. Looks like I should try one.
-
If you can find one, the SOG Northwest Ranger is my favorite SOG knife.
SOG knives are indeed stick tangs. It's a non-issue.
