Aloe Vera storage? uses?

I have a large aloe Vera plant that is close to a decade old. It put out an offspring and the the larger plant is dying off from the bottom up. It appears to be the natural progression of things. So I have harvested the remaining lower part of the plant. I was wondering if the gel from the leaves can be stored or what uses you guys might know of?

The gel is a wonderful thing for soothing burns, sunburns and any kind of raw scrape wound.
Not sure how you'd store it though.

Thanks, Lowkey....I knew about the burn remedy been using it for years. I just hate to see as much as I have goto waste. There has to be a storage solution. I thought of freezing it.

I have harvested some to see how it would keep. I kept mine in an opaque container and in the fridge. It liquified somewhat but even after six months it was soothing for sunburn or bug bites. Just kind of filet it, or peel it and scoop it out with a spoon.

I know we talked about it before Crash. Thanks for the response. I guess I was just plying the woods again..I put off harvesting it. Now I will have to. Seams like there would be a sauve recipe or something.

I've always just used it raw, and as is. Works well.

I agree it works very well! This plant has helped quite a few people!

It was a life saver when I was in Hawaii. Great on coral cuts and a wonderful way to meet a young sunburned tourist.:innocent:

There are several uses for aloe. Taken internally it helps peptic ulcers. And IBS. It can be made into creams and ointments.. stored in dark glass jars in the refrigerator will last three months. The deep yellow sap from the bottom of the leaf is called aloe bitters and is a relief for constipation.

Wait a minute. CS, you weren't born in Hawaii by any chance were you?

Interesting as to the storage solutions. I took a pic to send family the other day of the Aloe growing around here, I did not know Aloe grew so large. I think I will try a few things with it when I get the chance.

Are you sure that it isn't Agave as opposed to AloeVera?

Yep, Agave,,, I used to have a bunch of those in Arizona.... they make Tequila out od that stuff ;)
