R-22 air conditioners
I found out today that R-22 air conditioners are available for purchase. The loophole is such that R-22 units can be built and sold as long as the condenser is empty of freon. In some cases this will be handy. In my area hi efficient and r410A condenses don't make sense. Our cooling season is short, is it worth the additional investment.

Good to know, as It's really a PITA if just one half of a R-22 unit goes out, converting to the high efficiency units can require changing out the duct work, as the newer coils are much larger.
So whats R22 going for these days?
We used to sell it @$10 buck a pound........
Takes about 5+ pounds to fill even a small split system.
Still have about 30 lbs of "Good stuff"........

I think the last 30 lb jug of R-22 I bought wholesale was around $275 a jug. It has went up the last few years. I still have a jug of R-12 but with the drop ins these days I don't know how handy it would really be. Changing some of those systems over to a R410 a can be a PIA like you say the coils are bigger but sometimes the linesets are buried behind walls or such. There is a flush available but I'm not sure if I have faith in it. time will tell.
