We received what we asked for!!
On Dec 24 2010 at 3 AM my brother Aaron Jay Wink passed from this world. He has had a very hard life and short life. On Aug 26 2009 Aj was paralyzed in a mowing accident. I was brought to the scene and work on him a long with the other fire fighter and medics. We rode to the hospital working as best we could with all we knew but it appeared he would never walk again.
We were bless that Dr Nanda, a world recognized spinal surgeon, insisted on preforming his surgery himself. After many hours Dr Nanda came forth with tears in his eyes and gave us the bad news, but also said there was hope that with hard rehab he may be able to walk in 2 years on braces.
Our family changed the focus of our lives to caring for Aj and making him as happy as we could. This was not easy for AJ nor us but essential to be positive for his sake. Hours upon hours of rehab seem to just burr as he worked to regain his mobility and we were seeing progress, but along the way we noticed his right leg was swelling in an unusual way. He was later diagnosed Heterotopic ossification (HO). This is where the body begins to add huge amounts of calcium to the hip or knee and it is extremely painful 24 hrs a day as these calcium spurs are like needles pushing through the muscle of your leg. There is not a 100% cure for this and the treatment requires that the entire bone be removed ground back to shape and replaced then radiated in hope of killing the process.
It was at this time Aj had a CT scan and we were give a death sentence when the results came back. AJ had a large glibo blastoma tumor in his brain and treatment for it also was next to zero. The tumor was a result of the trauma on his body from the accident in Aug 2009.
My best friend and brother AJ was. He was an outdoorsman like me and we did everything together. My family is a family of fire fighters including AJ and he has blessed many as he has enriched and blessed our lives as well. He leaves behind a wife and 4 year old daughter that were the pride and joy of his life, he was 33.
So What was the gift we received this year that we are thankful for? Our family asked GOD to take him if he would not heal him too end his pain and suffering as this was AJ's wish as well. I was with him when he passed and saw for myself the relief on his face as he passed from these earthly bonds into eternity. It was a comfort that can not be measured.
Thank you for reading this far and my your family be bless as we have been this year.
