smelling water
After about 32 hours without water "smelling water" for some people as well as most animals is a fact and the water can be smelled from an hour away. In my 50 years in the backwoods I smelled water only a couple of times. It's not really the odor that I smelled but it was kind of dampness in the nostrils. Has anyone else had this experience?

Corndog - you don't have to go without water to smell it. I live on a lake and even though it isn't an odor, there is a smell similar to what you described. Some days I walk out of the hours and can "smell" the moisture from the lake. It's quite distinct.
Occassionally, the lake turns over then you can really smell it.:D

The water coming out of the taps in Las Vegas can be smelled from ten feet... :D

Never noticed. I live in NE Minnesota. We have a lot of lakes. Probably "smell" water all the time.

Jay - what method(s) of water purification do you teach in SL?

Depends on the source of the water, here where I live there is so much water in swamps, ponds, creeks, streams, lakes and such that it comes at you from all sides. Where it is a bit dryer you can easily wind smell the waters direction by its "freshness".
