Fire Bow with Box Elder
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MgVY_BxoubQ
This is the finale. There's a whole bunch of other "Box elder" vids over there showing how I selected my wood, sized it, and whatever else I could think of, about 8 vids in all that show the entire process from whittling and sizing the bow to blowing a tinder nest to flame.
I wanted to break it down real good for anyone who might be struggling in hopes that they would find something useful and increase their odds of success.
In the above vid, my bro is trying to get er done, but he just can't quite get there, very close though. Eventhough he doesn't get it, there is some good info shared as we talk back and forth about it.
I still don't consider myself an expert with the fire bow and ma nature can always smack ya down, but it is nice to be able to go out, grab up a variety of sticks and make fire with nothing more than a knife and a piece of paracord or natural cordage.
Bottom line: make everything perfect, if one item is binding or slipping hang it up and re-do.
My biggest issues:
Slipping cord and binding spindle, both are somewhat intertwined. Once I got past those two barriers and built up a little strength things went much better.

RWC, thanks for bring up Box elder, got a LOT of box elder at "The Place".....the Bugs as well.
So far I have gotten closer to actual success with it, then anything else.

You're welcome Hunter. It works real good, but is a little harder than some other woods.
I did cedar on cedar the other day and that worked real good too. The cedar smells great, but the Box elder reaked.

Nice work RWC. Glad you broke it down into it's components like that. You can watch each segment more closely this way.
I can tell your practice is paying off! Good job!

I haven't watched them all, but nice vid RWC.

Thanks YCC and Crash. That series is probably not too exciting, but it's meant to be more instructional than anything. I still have to get my bro back to try it again. He should be healed up by now.
Once you get the process down something clicks and it becomes much easier....at times. Knock on wood! LOL!

Sorry bro,got dial up, so watching vids takes foever,so I haven't watched them! But I congatulate your success! It does get easier and when it does'nt work, right off you can figure out why.
