First hand ground knife - INFERUS ORTUS
I posted this on another site as well but I received encouragment form the ppl - now friends- here as well. So I wanted to share it with you as well and to say ty to those that did encourage me even if you were not aware that you did !
For a few years now I have been working on some knives but never seemed to be able to make one I was happy with. I spent many hours hand filing because that is what I had been available to me in the summer and I would forge them in the winter. Then I met Paul and C Carney and everything changed.
I had received some harsh words from another person about some knives and was kinda down about it and decided I would no longer try to make knives to plz others but rather to plz myself and the needs of a person in the Deep South. It was from there that I began designing something that was like me , a serious/ all business and meat and taters guy. I am not a knife maker. I am just an amateur and a hobbyist with a desire to make quality affordable gear.
Once I had a rough designed I asked C Carney if he would like to co design it with me as he had inspired my thoughts on the knife to begin with. C Carney made suggestions and I would redesign it again then build a wood model with the changes and send the pics to Chuck. Both Chuck and I knew that Paul needed to be a part of this as he has encouraged us both so much and provide a lot of his personal time to answer my questions.
In the end a knife was conceived that met our thoughts of what a knife for the piney woods and swamps we live in would need to be. I told both Chuck and Paul that I would make each of us one in D2 to say thank you and to test them out.
But there was one major problem ..... I needed to build a grinder and learn how to use it lol. Camp 10 and Paul sent me pics of their machines and I knocked one together a week or so ago and finally received my belts the other day. I had intended to practice for awhile with mild steel but said what the heck. So I snatched up a piece of A2 that I had profiled to our design, just slightly oversize and went to work at it. Here are the results for my first hand ground knife:
INFERUS ORTUS = SOUTHERN BORN
A2 12"L 7" blade 3/16 thick 4.75" 1 1/2 wide flat ground last 1/8 of the edge will be convex - the three for Paul chuck and myself are D2 with all else the same Bos HT will do the HT and cryo. All 3 blades will be coated with black oxide for added corrosion resistance and the handles will be HM canvas micarta held on with hex bolts.

I will update this post as I progress further on the blades. Ty for reading this far as I felt it only right to tell the story and make sure both Paul and chuck received their credit as I could not have done this alone.
