last Thursday
I went with one other adult and we took 17 kids (ages 5 to 17) to a provincial park about an hour and a half west of me. It was fantastic, we got there just in time for a downpour, so I got to show them how to start fire in the rain and we did what we were going to do anyway, just wet. Hot dogs and smores in the rain. One of the highlights was that there was a Sundance being held just inside the park so the kids got to observe part of that too. I got to teach a bit of basic orienteering and map making and took them out trail hiking. Some of us went swimming even though it was raining. When it was pretty much time to haul them all home, the sun came shinging through so I took time to build another fire, more hot dogs and smores and give everyone a chance to dry out before we got back in the vans. It was great.

Cudos to you, Trax. Karma must have a bunch of attaboys saved up for you. Those kids will probably remember that event and you for the rest of their lives.
-
You sent them home with a good memory, always the best way to end a nice day.

Well done my man. Who had more fun, you or the kids?
-
Well there's one little fella about 8 years old I'm guessing who's still p*ssed with me because I wouldn't let him use the axe and one kid who was kind of mad because I didn't bring gas to get the fire going, but yeah, overall most had a good time and not too many cases of sniffles, lol. I had the most fun, definitely.
Just one thing I wanted to add, I can't do photos of those outings because some of those youngsters are in foster care and there's a whole raft of confidentiality and legal issues.....
