gourmet mushroom kits
I won't pretend to know anything about mushrooms, other than the tinder fungi, but I got a package in the mail the other day that had a lot of little information cards in there where you fill your information and send it back for catalogs and more info. Maybe some of the members who do know about mushrooms can check the link and tell us how good it is.
The place sells home growing kits that are eco-friendly, along with books and DVD's and gift packages. Several of the books look like they'd be good for identifying, harvesting and preparation.

also, this might need to be moved into the gardening section. I put it here because of the books and resources that might help those who forage mushrooms.

Thanks YCC, I've always been intrigued by those mushroom logs
one can use at home. Might be worth a try just for fun.

No way of telling by the link. They state a return policy on grow kits of purchase price minus 5.00.
I've known a few people that have bought grow kits from several places and they all usually grow, but not too well unless you are somewhat knowledgable about cultivation in the first place and have a good setup with proper environment for them to prosper.
Oysters are the easiest to grow. I've seen folks do well with outdoor grow kits of Shiitake and Wine caps/ Stropharia rugossoannulata. I would steer clear of the morel grow kits. Morels are not easily cultivated and the ones that are are poor comparisons to the wild varieties.
Most people I know trust Paul Stamet's online store for grow kits, but even his kits fail.

I have tried these kits a couple of times over the years, most seem to do well in my basement.
When they come up, they come in "flushes" so you have a bunch, then nothing, then another bunch and so on.
Bought a Shiitake Log at a framers market, DW thought I had paid $20 bucks for a "stick".
Been going for a couple of years, but slow.

My wife seems to have good luck. She sticks me in the dark basement and feeds me sh....wait, is that what you meant?

Morels?
I've recently got an offer in the mail for something called a "Moral Habitat kit."
Anybody have any experience with these? :confused1:

You might want to check that again. I think that was a Moral Habit Kit. I could be wrong, though.
