I get google alerts in my email concerning certain aspects of outdoor survival and wilderness survival.. good idea?? Anyway, I got this tonight and thought I would pass it along.. Yup, we found out in Duluth last Saturday. 12.4 inches of snow, west end of town got another 17 inches today. Have a kit packed in the wife's car, and about half of my kit in the truck. The rest is buried in the garage somewhere, that's this weekends project. being close to town isn't in a survival situation, always traffic around. But if one of our vehicals get disabled, we'll be able to ride out the wait without much if any discomfort.

Navy, would you still be okay if you received a call at 2:00 a.m. and you had to make a trip because some relative was in the hospital? I see Sarge standing there with his little fingers in the air, "Be Prepared".
haha! we had a severe weather alert last nite ,over an expected 1" of snow,got up this morning to rain and 41 degees LOL!

It's been between 10 and 20 degrees colder than normal here throughout the last half of November and now into the first week of December. Everyone around me is whining about it. I didn't plug in the ol' block heater one night and sure enough had to get a boost. That was it for me, I went into full winter mode. We've been getting dumped on with snow too, this morning I managed to talk a guy with a plow into doing a pass through on the driveway, so all I have to shovel is the walkways. Nice. I'm supposed to be planning a snowshoeing trip for a bunch of teenagers and teach them how to do a daycamp in the winter and teach 'em a bit of tracking. Maybe shoot a rabbit or a muskrat and get the little wonders to cook for themselves in the G.O.D. as in great out doors, but I'm hoping it'll warm up a few degrees. I figure there'll be six or eight of them plus myself and one employee. I'm going to give them a quick winter/outdoor survival basics quiz before we all go, so I can deal with a few myths and misconceptions indoors before we get out there.
Wait till ya get out there and they start complaining.
I know that ..four of them...will be ok and the other guy that's coming as asupervisor, he's pretty good at blackmailing and bribing them into behaving the way he wants. (I'm more like "SHUT THE F*** UP OR I"LL LEAVE YA OUT HERE) That's why I'm the manager and he's the youth worker, LOL.
If ya got alot of snow make a snow shelter, seal them up and then hide and see if they panic. :D Now there's fun.

For those of you that live where deep snow falls, do you wear gators to keep the snow out of your boots? I know some of you wear the high mocs but just wondered if those of you that wear shorter boots also wear gators.
i could get away with just my pants over my boots i pretty much always wear carhartts but when snowshoeing i always have on my gators prevents the lower part of my pants from etting wet and freezing..
