Well, not really a question. I’ve had this project on my list of things to try for quite some time. The wood is oak and has been seasoned for about 3 years. Even with that, the crack in it grew. I’m pretty confident that it can be sealed with some pine resin. Here’s the progress so far.

I used small fires to burn into the bowl. After one burned down I used a piece of copper tubing to get as much out of the embers as I could. Then I’d gouge out the charred wood, and start again. As it sits now, it is about two inches deep. This size would probably work well for grinding (mortar/pestle). I plan on thinning the walls (widening the bowl) and making it a little deeper.
